USA Network Renews 'Covert Affairs' For a Second Season

by Chris Harnick, posted Aug 19th 2010 6:30PM
Covert AffairsUSA Network's new CIA-based drama 'Covert Affairs' has been making a killing in the ratings, so much so that it's been renewed for a second season.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the show has continued to bring in more viewers since its July 13 premiere that was seen by 4.9 million viewers; it drew in a series-high 5.4 million viewers on Aug. 17.

'Cover Affairs,' which stars Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham, is currently the highest-rated scripted show premiere in the coveted 18-49 demographic.

The series from executive producer Doug Liman of the 'Bourne' movie franchise also stars Sendhil Ramamurthy, Peter Gallagher, Anne Dudek and Kari Matchett. It currently earns higher ratings than its lead-in, 'White Collar.'

For more on 'Covert Affairs,' check out our set visit where we dished with Perabo, Liman and the stars of the series about what makes it so special.

I didn't think much of this show in the beginning. I was on vacation when the pilot aired, so I didn't watch it. But, when I got home, I saw the pilot was free on iTunes, so I got it. Ever since I watched the pilot, I can't get enough. This show is too good. Props to Chris Gorham for playing the part of Auggie so well. And to Piper Perabo and her excellent acting.

I gave it a 'two time' shot but lost interest. I am a mystery buff & have a 90% solving average. This show is way too off the track with all the spy nonsense & Annie knowing who she's up against immediately upon arrival at specific 'crowded' destinations. Also, who can keep up with the spy/bad guy story lines when we average people know absolutely nothing about spies? Nothing is connecting the plots that we can stay in tune to the capture of whoever/whatever Annie is after AND doing it alone....I think NOT.

Looked at the first show. Got about as far as the first commercial break.

I have my gun, my secret mic and ear wig, and a car I can in no way on Earth drive. Wish me luck.

What kind of drug induced idiot notion wrote this crap? What kind of drug induced idiot notion produced the crap as written?

I gave this show a couple of tries. Mostly because of the guy being Jake 2.0. Just didn't see anything in this show that made it worth continuing to watch. Maybe the 2nd season will be of more interest.

Love this show..also White Collar, Burn Notice and Leverage. Good shows with not all that BLOODY type of violence with arms and legs flying all over the place. Think Christopher Gorham plays his roll extremely well..he and Annie are a great team. As for living with her sister in a separate apartment...what better place for a young woman working at the Smithonian???

The acting is abysmal, the show itself boring, and the plots ridiculously stupid and hard to follow.

Wow....Dave, if you can't follow the plot/story line, what does that say about you. I think you are taking this show for more than it is. It's "TV" for god sake... it's meant simply to entertain us... Not a view into real life CIA operations.

I'm a few years older than the targeted demographic, but I love this show. I have yearned for a good replacement since La Femme Nikita (will not watch the new version), and Alias.

My little sister makes me watch this show. It's not bad but I don't like the case of the week format. Leverage some how does this well without me getting bored. Covert Affairs not so much. Maybe it will pick up.. My sister hit series record.
