Steven Spielberg, 'Fringe' Producers Bringing Comic Series 'Locke & Key' to TV

locke & keyUber-producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci ('Fringe,' 'Star Trek,' 'Hawaii Five-0') are taking advantage of their deal with 20th Century Fox TV to bring another geek property to the screen. This time, they're developing a TV series with Steven Spielberg based on the IDW comic 'Locke & Key,' created by Spielberg's Stephen King's son Joe Hill.

Is your geek heart racing yet? If not, maybe this nugget will do the trick: According to Vulture, Kurtzman, Orci and Spielberg have tapped 'Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles' producer Josh Friedman to write and produce.

Hill's 'Locke & Key' books center on a group of teens who discover all kinds of mystical wonders and horrors inside a New England mansion, including a "ghost door" that opens to different worlds and separates people's spirits from their bodies. The first issue of the limited series, published in 2008, sold out in a day.

Reports surfaced earlier this year about Kurtzman and Orci turning the books into a feature film, but they've since decided to bring the series to the tube. A network has yet to nab the DreamWorks TV project, but insiders are pointing to Fox, which snatched up Spielberg's upcoming 'Terra Nova,' as a possible home.

Joe Hill is actually Stephen King's son, not Spielberg's.
