David Letterman to appear on 'The View' Sep 7David Letterman has been asking questions on TV for nearly 30 years, but he has rarely been the interviewee. But on Sept. 7, he will make his first appearance on ABC's 'The View,' according to Hal Boedeker of the Orlando Sentinel.

Sept. 7 also marks the first episode of the show's 14th season, and the day 'View' co-host Barbara Walters is scheduled to return after recovering from heart surgery.

Letterman, host of 'The Late Show' on CBS, is notoriously shy, and is not a frequent guest on the talk show circuit, though he has appeared on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' and 'Live with Regis and Kelly.' Earlier this year, he briefly addressed the fact that he had never been on 'The View' in an interview with Regis and Kelly, and explained his usual aversion to show business people (see the clip below).

Walters, 80, had valve replacement surgery in May after surprising her co-hosts by announcing on the show that she was going to have the procedure. She appeared on the show from her apartment last month to say she had recovered.

The 63-year-old Letterman signed a contract last year that will keep him at CBS until 2012.
