Rachel Maddow Blasts Afghan War-Based Reality Show 'Bomb Patrol' (VIDEO)
The new reality show 'Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan' was a topic of discussion on last night's 'Rachel Maddow Show,' (weeknights, 9 PM ET on MSNBC) and Rachel is not a fan of the concept. The ten episode reality series, which will follow a bomb squad unit in Afghanistan and run on G4, is being produced with the blessing of the U.S. Navy. Still, Rachel worried that packaging the war as entertainment is a dangerous line to cross.
G4 has yet to address the issue of how they would handle any casualties in the unit being filmed. This irked Maddow, who wondered aloud if "the prospect of American casualties is what they think is going to make people tune in."
Later, New York Times columnist Frank Rich joined Maddow, and also expressed the opinion that the show is in poor taste. He added that he doubts anyone will watch it. "Government really doesn't understand show business," he explained.
What do you think? Is 'Bomb Patrol: Afghanistan' a terrible idea, or is it something you would be interested in watching?
