ABC Orders New Washington D.C.-Set Pilot From 'The O.C.' Creator Josh Schwartz

Josh Schwartz has already cornered the rich-kid high school market with 'The O.C.' and 'Gossip Girl.' He captured the underachieving slacker genius demographic with 'Chuck.' His latest project, announced today, should fall somewhere in the middle of those two worlds. Variety reports that ABC has given the green light to a pilot for Schwartz and producing partner Stephanie Savage's new Washington, D.C.-set drama about twentysomethings. Based on Variety's description -- "young politicos find that the ideals that brought them to D.C. don't always match with the realities of living in the nation's capital" -- it sounds like the show will be something like a TV version of 'St. Elmo's Fire.' Hopefully with less cocaine.
ABC's recent shows about the exploits of young up-and-comers have had mixed results. 'Rookie Blue,' about young cops, got picked up for a second season, while 'The Deep End,' about law interns, only lasted six episodes. But Schwartz's series sounds promising. If there's one thing he's good at, it's portraying young people on TV. It's far too early to predict how the show will fare, but with three successful series under his belt, things are looking good for Schwartz.
Will you watch Josh Schwartz's new show?
