Bristol Palin's two-time former fiance Levi Johnston appeared on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS) and discussed his bid for political office as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, and his regret over the public apology he issued to the Palins in PEOPLE last month.

Johnston said he doesn't think his conspicuous lack of qualifications will prevent him from becoming mayor. "I don't really don't think mayor's about qualifications" he said. "It's really about, you know, the people liking you and believing in you." Um, sure, Levi. Sure.

As for the public apology he made to the Palins, Johnston said this was something he did to appease his then-fiance. "That was something I did to make my fiance happy. You know, she wanted it, so, we wrote something down and sent it out because that's what she wanted," he said, adding that he regrets apologizing because "it kind of makes me sound like a liar, and I've never lied about anything."
