Nicole Scherzinger Cast as Robin Sparkles' BFF on 'HIMYM'

Nicole ScherzingerIt's not exactly like George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley are getting Wham! back together, but ... actually, it is sorta like that.

EW.com's Michael Ausiello reports that Pussycat Dolls singer and 'Dancing With the Stars' champion Nicole Scherzinger has been cast as 'How I Met Your Mother' character Jessica Glitter, the former BFF and Canadian pop star cohort of Cobie Smulders' Robin Scherbatsky/Robin Sparkles ... yep, Sparkles & Glitter, that mall-touring Canadian power pop duo, is reuniting!

'HIMYM' producer Craig Thomas tells EW.com that the introduction of Jessica Glitter, which is scheduled to air during a November sweeps episode of the CBS sitcom, will provide more back story for the Robin Sparkles character.

"It's going to be a satisfying third chapter in the Robin Sparkles trilogy. It's a prequel to both 'Let's Got to the Mall' and 'Sandcastles in the Sand,'" said Thomas, referring to Robin Sparkles' (minor) hit tunes.

Added 'HIMYM' producer Carter Bays, "It's the origin story of Robin Sparkles. You see where she came from."

TV Guide.com reported earlier this summer that Jessica Glitter and Robin once starred in an "outer space-themed kids show" together.

Meanwhile, with the show set to kick off its sixth season on Sept. 20 (and with star Neil Patrick Harris looking to snag his first Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy -- after four nominations -- during this Sunday's Emmy telecast), here are a few other tidbits we know about the 'HIMYM' season ahead:

- Wayne Brady returns as James, Barney Stinson's bro, in the second episode of season 6, and he'll be bringing Ben Vereen, who'll play his dad, with him. Does that mean he's Barney's dad, too? Guess we'll find out, since 'Six Feet Under' alum Frances Conroy is also returning as the Stinson boys' mama.

- Titles for the first four episodes: 'Big Days' (Sept. 20), 'Cleaning House' (Sept. 27), 'Unfinished' (Oct. 4) and 'Subway Wars' (Oct. 11).

The Playbook- Marshall and Lily are in baby-making mode, beginning in the season premiere.

- Will we finally meet the titular mother, a.k.a. Ted Mosby's future wife? Maybe ... Bays has promised some "game-changing" events during the season. In fact, Thomas told TV Guide that, "We're going to get some glimpses into the future that will actually alter the way we tell the story," and said the clues start coming in the season premiere.

Added Bays: It'll involve "a new framework for the show ... that will cast the mystery (of the mother) in a new light, that will shed some new light on the central mystery and also create a new central mystery that will sort of expand the universe. We will be seeing more of the future."

- Broadway star and country singer Laura Bell Bundy will play the recurring role of Robin's new co-host at Metro News One after the departure of Robin's old co-anchor, and former boyfriend, Don.

- A third book penned by the fictional Barney Stinson will be released in the real world. 'The Playbook: Suit Up. Score Chicks. Be Awesome.' -- a follow-up to the New York Times bestseller 'The Bro Code' -- details dozens of Barney's patented pickup moves, from The Lorenzo von Matterhorn to The Mrs. Stinsfire. The book will be released by Touchstone Books on Oct. 5.
