Shattered - Wednesday September 1, 10 pm ET/PT, Global

The latest Canadian police procedural debuts tonight, with Callum Keith Rennie as a cop with Multiple Personality Disorder who drags his new partner into a murky homicide investigation. Originally slated to air on Showtime, this has more in common with 'Durham County' than 'Rookie Blue.'

Life with Murder - Tuesday August 31, 10 pm ET, CTV

This made-for-TV version of the festival-circuit doc presents the case of the Jenkins family of Ontario. Their son served time for the murder of their daughter, and when he finished his sentence, they faced the difficult decision to let him back into their lives. An expanded version of the doc plays next week, and actually contains a murder confession.

Intervention - Wednesday September 1, 8 pm ET/PT, TVtropolis

Season 5 of this harrowing show starts up on TVtropolis tonight (the U.S. is now in season 9), which sure beats watching 10-minute sections of it on YouTube. The format of the show hasn't changed much over the years, but it still has the power to make you extremely thankful for your relatively beautiful life. Check out my interview with one of the producers next week.

Citytv Big Awesome Preview Show - Sunday September 5, 10 pm ET/PT, Citytv

I'm surprised more networks aren't doing this -- basically it's a preview montage of upcoming fall shows, including J.J. Abrams' new spy series 'Undercovers,' and sophomore shows like 'Modern Family' and 'Cougar Town'. Essentially, the equivalent of a promotional YouTube video, but a smart idea nonetheless.
