Don Johnson Is Mad at the Emmy Awards - and So Is Jay Leno (VIDEO)
Well, the 2010 Emmy Awards were held last night. That's all very well and good for the people who won. But what about the losers? What about the stars who never win, or who fail over and over again? On 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), we get to meet two such Emmy losers: Don Johnson and Jay Leno. While talking to Leno, Johnson recounts his one and only shot at Emmy-related glory. In 1985, he was nominated as Best Actor in a Drama for his work on 'Miami Vice.' And he didn't win. It's been 25 years since then, but Don still seems a little irritated. He calls the whole Emmy experience "painful" and "excruciating," while Jay laughs and claps his hands. "I was pissed!" Johnson says.
As it turns out, Jay Leno can relate to Don's annoyance. "Hey, you don't have to tell me. ...We're in the same boat," says the host. Yes, this is true. But while Johnson failed to get one award, Leno has lost at the Emmys a staggering ten times. Out of his eleven nominations, Jay only won a single Emmy for Best Comedy Series -- in 1995. That's a 9.09% success rate. ... Or, if you prefer, he has lost 90.91% of the time. ... Ouch! That's not so good.
The two men can laugh about their Emmy travails now, but they also bond through their shared disdain for the award show process. And maybe ... there just might be a hint of real bitterness coming from Don and Jay?
