'Grey's Anatomy' Wedding Spoilers: The Couple Getting Married Is ...

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Aug 31st 2010 5:40PM
Grey's Anatomy'Grey's Anatomy' fans rejoice! After weeks of being tortured by the news there would be a major wedding in the upcoming season premiere by gossip columnists Michael Ausiello and Kristin Dos Santos, ABC has finally allowed them to release the names of the two persons in question.

Spoilers coming up! You've been warned!

Seriously, ginormous spoilers ahead ...

Fans weighted in all summer on who would walk down the aisle using the various spoilers thrown our way. Couples in the running were Callie and Airzona, Alex and Lexie, Cristina and Owen, Meredith and Derek (they are married... but only on a Post-It note), or a couple that is less important to the show.

The confirmation hit the web at exactly noon ET today: Cristina and Owen are walking down the aisle in the Sept. 23 premiere!

Isn't that fantastic news? Cristina has been my favorite character from the start, and I've been hurting seen her not be fully happy in love, especially after the Burke fiasco at the altar. Owen, even with his psychological problems, is a great man who needs stability, love, and support in his life and we've seen this past season that Cristina can bring him exactly that. And another major reason why I'm loving this news is that the Teddy-Owen-Cristina love triangle is over!

But why are they getting married? And why so soon, especially since they aren't engaged? Series creator Shonda Rhimes told 'Entertainment Weekly's' Michael Ausiello that the upcoming season's theme will be "rebirth" and that the characters are coming out of a very dark place (the season finale massacre), so having Cristina and Owen get married brings hope.

She also admitted that she needed a game changer to set in motion a major shift that will happen in season 7. Rhimes confirms that they talked about pulling a 'Desperate Housewives' by jumping ahead in time to reset the series but discovered that the biggest change in the 'Grey's Anatomy world would be Cristina wanting to be a bride.

Kevin McKidd told TV Guide that Owen's proposal will be unexpected and quite a shocker. It will be featured as a flashback in the season premiere. He also admits that questions such as "Did they rush into it?" or "Did they do it for the wrong reasons?" will be asked.

A fun tidbit from Kristin Dos Santos is that Cristina will be held back from returning to surgery by the new Seattle Grace therapist because she is still suffering from post-traumatic stress and because she is too preoccupied with wedding planning. Since we know Dr. Yang is all about surgeries, she may ask Owen to speed things in order to take "wedding planning" out of the equation and be able to return to duty asap!

Burke & Christina were much to strong individually to have worked. That "I'm the best" competition thing going on. Christina will work well w/a needy person. She can be the best and he can need a mom. Too needy for me , but will probably work for her. He could even turn out to be irrepairably damaged. Hope my grammer and spelling is acceptable.

Christina and Owen will be perfect together. Both spend all their time scowling and frowning. Both are complete emotional messes. Both are obsessed with work as an alternative to living life. Neither should be with anybody until they both have years and years of therapy. I hope this is the last season for this dreadful soap opera.

Owen gives me the heebie-jeebies. If he "belongs" to anyone, it would be Teddy. Not a good match for Christine. Their love scenes give me the creeps and I have been a huge fan since day one.

@Catherine: Not to mention "Fans weighted in" should be Fans weighed in. One more example of our public school system's deteriation.

I'm happy that Christina is finding happiness. She and Owen have explored a lot of issues, and done some soul searching. The characters work well together, and accept each other with the faults that they each have....although it took some work and compromise and both their parts. Good for them, Happy Wedding...
