'Grey's Anatomy' fans rejoice! After weeks of being tortured by the news there would be a major wedding in the upcoming season premiere by gossip columnists Michael Ausiello and Kristin Dos Santos, ABC has finally allowed them to release the names of the two persons in question.

Seriously, ginormous spoilers ahead ...


Fans weighted in all summer on who would walk down the aisle using the various spoilers thrown our way. Couples in the running were Callie and Airzona, Alex and Lexie, Cristina and Owen, Meredith and Derek (they are married... but only on a Post-It note), or a couple that is less important to the show.

The confirmation hit the web at exactly noon ET today: Cristina and Owen are walking down the aisle in the Sept. 23 premiere!

Isn't that fantastic news? Cristina has been my favorite character from the start, and I've been hurting seen her not be fully happy in love, especially after the Burke fiasco at the altar. Owen, even with his psychological problems, is a great man who needs stability, love, and support in his life and we've seen this past season that Cristina can bring him exactly that. And another major reason why I'm loving this news is that the Teddy-Owen-Cristina love triangle is over!

But why are they getting married? And why so soon, especially since they aren't engaged? Series creator Shonda Rhimes told 'Entertainment Weekly's' Michael Ausiello that the upcoming season's theme will be "rebirth" and that the characters are coming out of a very dark place (the season finale massacre), so having Cristina and Owen get married brings hope.

She also admitted that she needed a game changer to set in motion a major shift that will happen in season 7. Rhimes confirms that they talked about pulling a 'Desperate Housewives' by jumping ahead in time to reset the series but discovered that the biggest change in the 'Grey's Anatomy world would be Cristina wanting to be a bride.

Kevin McKidd told TV Guide that Owen's proposal will be unexpected and quite a shocker. It will be featured as a flashback in the season premiere. He also admits that questions such as "Did they rush into it?" or "Did they do it for the wrong reasons?" will be asked.

A fun tidbit from Kristin Dos Santos is that Cristina will be held back from returning to surgery by the new Seattle Grace therapist because she is still suffering from post-traumatic stress and because she is too preoccupied with wedding planning. Since we know Dr. Yang is all about surgeries, she may ask Owen to speed things in order to take "wedding planning" out of the equation and be able to return to duty asap!
