Jamie Foxx is returning to his sketch comedy roots on the network that gave him his first big break. According to Deadline, Fox has given a 12-episode order to a new sketch comedy show, tentatively titled 'The Jamie Foxx Project,' for midseason.Foxx worked on a sketch comedy pilot for the last pilot cycle, but this is a different show with a few holdovers from the previous cast and writing team. Affion Crockett ('The Boondocks,' 'Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz') will star and produce, and Carl Jones will write and produce.
The new show is reported to have much in common with 'In Living Color,' the classic Fox sketch show helmed by the Wayans family. That show introduced Foxx to the public at large, and featured pop culture parodies performed by a talented ensemble cast.
In all likelihood, 'The Jamie Foxx Project' is just a placeholder name, considering Foxx has already starred in 'The Jamie Foxx Show.' Foxx/King Entertainment will produce the show, along with The Tannenbaum Co. It's hard to imagine musician and Oscar-winning actor Foxx joining the cast and appearing on a regular basis, especially since he seems to be taking to producing these days. But it would have to be tempting to Foxx to jump back in for a cameo somewhere, if only for old time's sake.
