Michael Douglas Discusses Throat Cancer Diagnosis With Letterman (VIDEO)
Michael Douglas appeared on 'The Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) to discuss his recent struggle with throat cancer -- and even David Letterman had to mention that Mike was looking pretty good! Especially considering that he's battling a potentially terminal illness.Douglas was only diagnosed with the disease three weeks ago. But by the time doctors discovered his throat cancer, it was already in the "advanced" stage. Michael just completed his first week of radiation and chemotherapy -- doctors now put his chances of recovery at 80% or better, which is great news.
Cancer or no cancer, Douglas had already promised to appear on Letterman's program -- so that's exactly what he did. Dave was impressed; and he was amazed at how well Mike was holding up under the strain. "You've never looked better," Dave said to him, "and this proves that you're a tough guy, for God's sake." Yes indeed, it does.
Letterman also pointed out that Douglas didn't even sound like he had throat cancer. Michael replied to this by saying that he was an actor, and he had a certain duty to perform well on stage; even if it was only the stage of the 'Late Show.' See? That's tough.
Dave's last question to Michael was this: "Did [the doctors find the cancer] early enough for their liking?" Translated, he was asking if Michael had a good chance of survival.
"I sure as sh*t hope so," was Douglas's reply.
We sure as sh*t hope so too, Mr. Douglas. You are indeed a very tough guy, and we wish you all the best.
