Jennifer Lopez Reportedly Near an 'American Idol' Deal

by Scott Harris, posted Sep 2nd 2010 6:30PM
Ever since Ellen DeGeneres announced she was joining Simon Cowell in the great 'American Idol' judging exodus, rumors have swirled over who her replacement will be. Harry Connick, Jr.? Steven Tyler? Certainly not Jennifer Lopez, who last we heard was out of the running due to her over-the-top diva demands?

Well, now it appears that the show's producers may have finally settled on a new judge. The winner of the 'American Idol' sweepstakes is... oh. Actually, it's J-Lo after all.

Yes, it's (apparently) true: despite persistent rumors to the contrary, Jennifer Lopez is reportedly "in the final stages of negotiations with 'American Idol'" to become "the last critical link in the chain," according to the gossip mothership, TMZ.com.

And those supposed diva antics? Well, those were apparently a bunch of nonsense as well. "There has been no drama and no diva demands," TMZ states, citing one source familiar with the negotiations as saying that "It's been typical negotiating."

"Absent a last-minute snag (which is highly unlikely)," the TMZ report states, "the deal could be inked as early as next week," which is good news for Fox considering 'AI's' producers apparently now feel that J-Lo is "the key to re-energizing the show."

Sure. Pardon us for being just a bit skeptical at this point, but as much as we love the beautiful and talented Lopez, we're not quite ready to throw a piñata party just yet; after all, considering the number of rumors that have already come and gone during this process, it's hard to believe anybody actually knows what's going to happen with the show. This looks promising, but until we see someone's signature on a contract, we're going to keep watching and waiting and hoping, with just a tiny bit of our secret hearts, that Simon might reconsider and come back after all.

Until then, though, it looks like J-Lo is at least the frontrunner of a dwindling field of possibilities.

What do you think about this latest news? Good? Bad? Too jaded to believe anything? Let us know your thoughts.

Hey, TMZ narrator, you must think we're all
incredibly stupid to believe that Jennifer Lopez
was actually fibbing about not being a judge on
American Idol, when it may be obvious to you that
she sold out all along. Well, maybe we are stupid,
but if the Idol judges jumble around anymore by the
end of this year, I can asure you, TMZ Narrator,
the next thing you report about Paula Abdul quite
possibly returning to American Idol, will make you
look incredibly stupid, too.
