Jan Brewer Debate: Arizona Governor Has Amazingly Awkward Deer-in-Headlights Moment (VIDEO)

Getting tripped up during the give and take of a debate can happen to even the best of orators. However, it takes a special kind of inarticulateness to completely flub your opening statement.

On 'Hardball With Chris Matthews' (weekdays 5 PM ET on MSNBC) Matthews played a clip of Arizona Governor Jan Brewer debate against challenger Terry Goddard. Brewer opened by explaining what she had accomplished during her two years as Governor:

"Arizona has been brought back from this abyss," Brewer began, dramatically. "We have cut the budget. We have balanced the budget and we are moving forward. We have done everything we could possible do..."

And then, crickets. And more crickets. Brewer was able to keep a smile on her face as her words failed her. She giggled a little, and paused for a very awkward 13 seconds before she was able to finish her closing line, "We have done what was right for Arizona."

Brewer came into the debate well ahead in the polls. So if enough Arizonians remember that tricky book report they had in the fourth grade, she'll probably be OK.
