Soap Casting News: Paul Leyden Joins 'The Young and Restless' ... and More

paul_leydon_as_the_world_turns_cbsThere was some shocking casting confirmations this week, mostly based on a big storyline developments, plus a hot Internet rumor about one major soap star who might be migrating back to his original soap. And then there's 'As the World Turns' fave Paul Leyden going west to 'The Young and the Restless.'

For all the news, read what's been happening around the dial in our weekly soap casting wrap-up.

Genoa City Gets Aussie Hunk

Is there room for a hot, Australian leading man in Genoa City? You bet! Actor Paul Leyden has just signed with 'The Young and the Restless,' Nielsen's number one soap. Leyden, best known as Simon Frasier on 'As the World Turns,' will be playing Blake, a new character who appears on 'Y&R' canvas on Wednesday, October 6.

While the show isn't spilling the beans about Blake's motivation, it would seem likely that he's going to be involved in Cane's (Daniel Goddard) Australian adventure. Could Blake be one of the guys who wants to kill Cane for testifying against him?

Hmm ... By the way, another net rumor is that Paul may pair off with his former 'ATWT's' co-star Maura West, who has just started filming as the new Diane Jenkins.

Vincent Irizarry Has Left Pine Valley

No doubt that if you watched 'All My Children' last Friday, you're aware that David Hayward is dead! That's right, the villain has been vanquished, which means that Vincent Irizarry is done with 'AMC.' Irizarry. Vince is a fantastic soap star who's been a hit on a bunch of shows, including 'Guiding Light' (twice -- once as Lujack and once as Nick McHenry) as well as 'Santa Barbara,' and a really nasty turn on 'The Young and the Restless' as David Chow.

That said, why did 'AMC' let Dr. Hayward die? According to a Soap Opera Digest interview with head writers David Kreizman and Donna Swajeski, "We really felt that this had been building for some time, that even before we started, David had made a lot of choices and done a lot of things to a lot of people, and that it all sort of builds to this moment. He needed to pay for his crimes one way or another."

However, is Vincent really gone? Well, probably, but read what the actor has posted on his Facebook page: "I can't say enough how appreciative I am of all the comments on websites and message boards that have been written in support of my work and my character. There would be no doubt to me whatsoever, if I do return to 'AMC,' it will be in greater part because of this wonderful outpouring from all of you who love the show and David as much as I do. I am forever grateful to all of you."

roger_howarth_as_the_world_turns_cbsCould There Be Another Todd Manning on 'One Life to Live'?

With 'ATWT' coming to an end in just a few weeks, many of the actors from the show are getting new work, and one star is rumored to be returning to his former show. Actor Roger Howarth has been Paul in Oakdale, but he made his mark as the complicated, irascible Todd Manning on 'OLTL.' So, could Howarth resume the Manning role again on 'OTLT'? Well, that might be a bigger complication than ever because actor Trevor St. John currently is playing the role.

Not only is he playing the same character, but the history of the show has included plastic surgery for Todd to alter his original appearance. But, then, why did the soap recently include an old photo of Howarth as Manning? Were the producers planting seeds of doubt about who Trevor St. John's character really is?

The debate is raging, with some columnists declaring that this is nothing but spin. However, it's worth noting that if 'OTLT' wanted to kick it up a notch storyline wise, rehiring Howarth and keeping St. John at the same time would be an interesting development! We'll have to wait and see ...

Catch Up With Finola

'General Hospital' star Finola Hughes (Anna) will be dropping into ABC Family's hot new sitcom 'Melissa & Joey.' If you've missed Finola on the TV screen, tune on on September 28, for her guest appearance.

clementine_ford_thad_luckinbill_cbs_young_and_restlessIt's Over for 'Y&R's' Mac and J.T.

Bad news for 'Y&R' actors Thad Luckinbill and Clementine Ford; they're being written of the show. According to TVGuide.com, the set side report has it that their characters, J.T. and Mac -- who've just moved in together -- are about to be shipped out of Genoa City for parts unknown. It could be Darfur for Mac, who's been a volunteer around the world before, or it could be Japan for J.T., who just took a security job for Jabot. 'Y&R' isn't confirming the exit just yet, but it would seem a likely storyline development with new stars crowding into the cast, like Paul Leyden (see above).

Deidre Hall Update

It would be nice to report that 'Days of Our Lives' was bringing Deidre Hall back for the visit, but that's the story this week. Instead, Deidre Hall is suing the person who'd been running her web site and fan club. RadarOnline.com revealed the court papers that were filed on August 31. Hall wants control of the URLs deidrehall.com and Marlena.com, as well as some memorabilia that belongs to the actress.

According to the documents, Deidre's 'fan,' Cathleen J. Paradis, "refused, and continues to refuse to surrender the domain name deidrehall.com and other domain names on behalf of Hall, unless Hall pays her thousands of dollars. ... [She] continued to use her image and likeness of the web sites to generate Internet traffic and sell unauthorized merchandise, including ... private photographs of Hall and her minor children."
