Recap: 'So You Think You Can Dance Canada': The Top 18 Perform

Last I checked -- you know, seven days ago -- this was a family show. Maybe I'm mistaken. But tonight, these dancers brought some of the sexiest moves we've seen. It wasn't just my fever that was making me feel all hot and bothered -- some of the routines were downright naughty.
It all started with Amanda and Denys. Their rock 'n roll quickstep was incredible (especially considering Amanda has never done ballroom). With little time to catch our breath, viewers were treated to Shavar and Janick getting dirty to a routine choreographed by judge Luther Brown. It was hot. HOT! Their moves, their swagger, their sweaty sexy bodies: Heavenly. Then there was the hustle performance from normally goody-goodies Charlene and Jeff; what was with some of those dance moves!? And those lifts!? Mind. Blowing.
Obviously, when trying to be sexy, some pairs just can't rock it. Valiant efforts were put forward by Julia and Jesse (the second performance of the night; while it was beautiful, there was zero connection between them) and Nathalie and Mackenzie (they're both so individually sexy; their performance was just a touch awkward and lacking in fluidity).
Despite being in their genre (contemporary), the performance by Sebastian and Danielle was lacking... something. The pair took on a tough topic (coping with eating disorders) and the judges were really into it, but I was hoping for a bit more. I didn't feel what everyone else seemed to feel.
Another performance that fell apart was the '90s routine by Jera and Kirsten. These guys just weren't feeling that performance -- from the looks on their faces to the moves to the steps. It was far more comical than anything resembling sexy.
Results are coming your way on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 8:30 p.m. on CTV.
Random thoughts:
-- I never thought I'd say this: Leah looked amazing tonight. Sexy. Purple. Sweet. And I'd kill for her shoes. Well done.
-- The judges were in a rambling mood. Much of what they said wasn't even feedback, it was just describing how great the dancers were as people, not performers. A few of the judges even looked lost for words. Spit. It. Out. And please, give us -- and the dancers -- feedback that counts as constructive criticism.
-- I'm all for learning more about the dancers, but I can see how the "filler" segments could get annoying. There were only two performances in the last 40 minutes of the show. Maybe make the show 90 minutes and skip some of the filler? Just an idea.
