Simon Cowell May Ditch His U.K. Shows to Concentrate on 'The X Factor' U.S. Launch
Simon Cowell's exit from the 'American Idol' judging panel is shaking up the 10-season-old U.S. show, but the reality talent competition guru isn't stopping there. Cowell's two U.K. shows, 'The X Factor' and 'Britain's Got Talent,' which he produces as well as judges, are getting their own massive cleanups as well. "Expect big changes," he told the U.K.'s Daily Star. "I like the idea of doing something different next year.
First up: changing the judging panels on both shows, including giving himself the axe.
"No one is safe," he said. "No one should feel they have the show guaranteed, including myself. At the moment you are going to see me doing one show next year. "
That means 'The X Factor' and 'BGT' judges Piers Morgan, Cheryl Cole, Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh and Amanda Holden are all in danger of losing their jobs. However, all hope is not lost.
Cowell is in the process of creating an American version of 'The X Factor,' and the Daily Star reports that he could import some of his U.K. judging talent to the U.S.
Morgan is the most likely candidate to appear on the new U.S. 'X Factor,' though, since he has been named the new replacement for CNN's Larry King, his schedule will be tight. However, after appearing on 'The Celebrity Apprentice,' he is the one existing U.K. judge who is already familiar to U.S. audiences.
Cowell hasn't yet decided which U.K. show he'll judge, he has decided that his U.K. 'X Factor' will start several months after its usual summer run to give him a chance to launch the new U.S. show.
"'X Factor'will have to move," he said. "And you have to change things on these shows otherwise its going to be the same old thing. That means people leave. I like the idea of doing something different. We do it on all these shows that we do all over the world -- we don't keep the same judges on all the time. Somebody comes along whom you want to work with. It's happened with a couple of people I've met recently. You make the necessary changes."
