'Sister Wives' Sneak Peek: Meet TLC's Newest Reality Stars

by Chris Jordan, posted Sep 7th 2010 6:30PM
"She's a sister from the same mister and he's a brother from another mother,'' 'Sister Wives' star Kody Brown says, his children giggling, during a trailer for TLC's newest reality series.

Just another happy family in Utah, right?

Well, not exactly. Brown has three wives and 13 children. The show, which debuts Sun., Sept. 26, will follow Brown and his family as he courts a potential fourth wife, who has three kids herself.

It's not easy being a sister wife. "Some people think 'How do you feel when he's off with another woman, and you know they're having sex?''' says one wife in the trailer. "Well, gosh darn it, they better.''

The Browns are fundamentalist Mormons in Utah who are technically living an illegal polygamous lifestyle, according to a BBC report. The activist family is fighting to legalize polygamy on the grounds that its illegality is discriminatory and unfair toward Mormons.

There are about 40,000 people in Utah living in illegal polygamous families.

This seemingly important information is not discussed nor hinted at in the trailer. Instead, there are title cards telling viewers to Rethink Love, Rethink Marriage and Rethink Family Reality while chirpy organ music plays in the background.

'"Sister Wives' captures the intense dynamics surrounding a man juggling three wives while attempting to keep it a secret from the outside world,'' said TLC in a press release earlier this month.

Well, one thing is for sure. The secret is out.
