Despite the short life of last year's 'It's On With Alexa Chung,' MTV hasn't given up its quest to find a replacement for its beloved 'TRL.' The network announced today that it has lined up a new live show to air weekdays from its Times Square studios, called 'The Seven.' The half-hour show will broadcast every weekday at 5PM, and run seven pop-culture related stories about gossip, music, fashion, sex and other entertainment news, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The new, later time (as opposed to the 3:30PM after-school slot) is a result of MTV's research that indicates kids get home from school later now than they did in the past.
Tony DiSanto, 'TRL' co-creator and president of programming at MTV, said he's been trying for a while to find a new live series for the network. "It's been a big goal of mine to get us back into the live-series business," he said. "I wanted to get into day-and-date topical programming, and there's just something about having a live show during a time of day where everything else is pretaped."
'The Seven' will be hosted by Chicago radio DJ Kevin Manno and sports cable host Julie Alexandria.
