Will Tim Allen Make His TV Comeback in 2011?

by Jean Bentley, posted Sep 10th 2010 12:40PM
Tim AllenDoes everybody know what time it is?

Time for Tim Allen to return to primetime television, that's what time it is. According to EW.com, that's exactly what the comedian is trying to do. Allen is currently on the hunt for the perfect project to launch him back into TV stardom. And whatever the man picks, a source associated with Allen's comeback assures us, "It will be huge."

Fresh off the massive box office success of 'Toy Story 3,' Allen is probably feeling like a career rejuvenation is in order.

EW reports that Allen is one of a select group of stars whom TV producers try to book every season, so there is considerable interest in finding him a star vehicle. One suggestion we like: joining the cast of 'The Office' as the new boss. 'Home Improvement''s Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor was as inept at construction as Michael Scott is at selling paper. It's a perfect fit!

Tell us: What kind of show would you like to see Allen choose for his television return?

American version of "Top Gear". That's the perfect non-sitcom job for Tim.

Lol what about a comedy with Ancient Rome or Greece as the backdrop? I could see him trying to wield a sword and haplessly winning or losing his way through some of the weird creatures that would entail haha.

Not many comedic actors can take their careers in the same show, as we all know, spin off's usually are flops...

Could Tim Allen be another Bob Newhart and prove me wrong?

Bring back "Get Smart" and give Tim the part of Maxwell Smart. Not sure who should be Agent 99.

Mike, not a bad idea...not a bad idea AT ALL !! An idea for agent 99...Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds). It's already been anounced that she is leaving the show at the end of the upcoming season, and if you haven't seen any of her comedy, you've missed out. She played Joey's (then Chandler's) girlfriend in a recurring role on "Friends". She also appeared as a childhood friend, turned total "hottie" of Alan's on "Two and a Half Men". She is VERY funny...and VERY attractive. I hope these messages are read by at least a few folks in the "industry" and not by everyday shmucks (sp?) like us. Good idea dude...kingmambo

I am all for Mr. Allen returning to TV, but if he joins The Office I'll never watch it. It would be great to see a revival of the old Home Improvement show or something along that line. I think a new character based on the "Tool Man" would be good too...a "Mr. Fix-it" type who can't seem to get anything right. I could see him as a game show host also...he could revive the old "Beat the Clock" show or "Newlywed" game or something fun like that...something where he could let himself go.

I agree with MOST all of the comments I've read so far. EXCEPT for those that DON'T find Tim Allen funny. The first time I saw him do his stand-up bit on HBO or perhaps Showtime, I was laughing so hard that I woke up my PO'd wife and had to finish watching with my face buried in a freakin' pillow. Make that EX-WIFE !
I think casting him as the principal of a high school would really work well. Having to deal with teachers, parents, students, etc. I would like it to be basically a comedy, but it could contain sub-plots. Serious, poignant subjects: drugs, teen pregnancy, abuse in the home, and so on. Tim's talents are really far-reaching and I think he would bring a GREAT blend of humor and relevancy to a character in that position.

I sincerely hope that you do not get your wish. I liked Tim Allen in Home Improvement, but won't follow him to The Office. If he returns to TV, it should be in something entirely new. I just hope that no one gets the idea of making Zoom a TV series. It was a pretty good movie, but would absolutely suck as a TV series. Same goes for Galaxy Quest.
