Joaquin Phoenix Facing Letterman Again

by PopEater Staff, posted Sep 13th 2010 4:30PM
Joaquin PhoenixMark your calendars: Phoenix vs. Letterman, round 2, will take place Sept. 22.

The last time Joaquin Phoenix appeared on the 'Late Show with David Letterman,' the interview was testy and awkward, and helped add yet another wrinkle to Phoenix's bizarre transformation from respected actor to amateur rapper. But things are bound to get a whole lot weirder come next week.

Phoenix will appear on the late night talk show Sept. 22, marking his first sit-down with Letterman since February 2009.

Casey Affleck's (faux?) documentary on Phoenix's transformation, called 'I'm Still Here,' is in theaters now and strangely enough includes the original interview with Letterman. It's very possible that Phoenix will plug the film on Letterman's show by airing a clip of himself talking to Letterman on Letterman's show. Mind blown?

Watch their last chit-chat after the jump!

If the film really is a hoax, and if that means the whole transformation was a hoax and Joaquin faked the last interview, he may drop the mask in this interview and be just fine. I'd like that a lot. I hated believing he was self-destructing.

the rapper phoenix is gone and the respected actor phoenix is back...he ditched the caveman look and is now promoting this film so it was all a joke.

I think you hit it right on the head Brenda - everyone here is talking about the last interview, the next interview, the movie, JP, Letterman, etc. JP is getting plenty of buzz and having fun (I hope) -gotta love him!

It was a great interview. It was honest. Jaquin Phoenix can act (his brother River Phoenix acted brilliantly as well), so Letterman wasnt telling any stories when he talked about his acting ability. Jaquin was just as honest, after Dave told him about the bubblegum, he immediately took it from his mouth put it under the desk, and realized he needed to remove it out of respect. All in all that interview was a blend of, Abbot and Costello, the scene in Good Fellas, of Pesci asking Ray 'do I make you laugh', and the surrealism of Andy Warhol, all rolled up into one, it's a classic. I agree with Dave, Jaquin shouldn't say never to acting, he's always brought his 'A' game.
