susan_lucci_walt_willey_all_my_children_abcEveryone's favorite Emmy-winner, Susan Lucci, resumes her role on 'All My Children,' while NBC's 'Days of Our Lives' is going high-definition. And then there's a strange story about the end of 'As the World Turns' ...

For all the news, read what's been happening around the dial in our weekly soap casting wrap-up.

La Lucci Returns

After a lengthy summer vacation, Susan Lucci returns to 'All My Children' as Erica Kane on Oct. 6 ... and not a moment too soon. All her children, especially Kendall (Alicia Minshew), need her. Erica and Jack (Walt Willey) were off on a pre-wedding honeymoon, leaving Erica's infatuation with Caleb (Michael Nouri) in flux.

And when Erica returns to Pine Valley, there'll be the ongoing murder case of David Heyward (Vincent Irizarry) to ponder. In Soap Opera Digest, 'AMC' co-headwriter David Kreizman, said, "When they get back, suddenly they're both being pulled into this into these big things, and for Erica especially, she has to kind of decide what her priority is."

Hmm ... you think Jackson is going to make the Top 10 on the priority list?

This is a particularly sad week for soap fans because 'As the World Turns' will be airing its last episode on Fri., Sept. 17. One star who will not be appearing in the final week, however, is Martha Byrne. Martha created and will be forever known as Lily Sndyer ... but for the past two years Noelle Beck has played the role.

In an amazing revelation, Beck volunteered to step aside so that Martha could return to the show for continuity's sake and give Lily fans a fitting finale. It was a truly generous gesture -- one not taken by the soap -- but Martha Byrne heard about it. She told TV Guide, "I was aware of this offer by Noelle after the show was canceled. It was a very unselfish act on her part."

Catch Vanessa on 'The Doctors'

If you haven't been getting enough of Vanessa Marcil-Giovinazzo on 'General Hospital' as Brenda, tune in to 'The Doctors' on Fri., Sept. 17. The actress will be included in the round table discussion about parenting. The show is calling it the 'Motherhood Survival Club' episode.

nadia_bjorlin_days_of_our_lives_chloeGotta Love that Twitter

News comes from a variety of sources these days, much to the displeasure of the network publicists. For instance, on 'One Life to Live,' you might think that Eli Clark is dead. However, thanks to actor Matt Walton, we know differently. Walton tweeted that his alter ego, Eli, has been filming scenes with Kim Zimmer, who's joining 'OLTL' as Echo. Thanks, Matt!

Another Twitter missive has come from 'Days of Our Lives'' Nadia Bjorlin. The actress, who plays Chloe on 'Days,' will be in an October episode of the hit CBS drama, 'NCIS.' The actress tweeted that she's been filming scenes with Michael Weatherly.

'Days' in HD

There's great news for soap fans who want to see every bit of their faves in high definition. To commemorate the 45th anniversary of the show, NBC will begin broadcasting 'Days of Our Lives' in HD commencing on Nov. 8.

Llanview Looking for a New Joey

How's this for a daunting task? 'OLTL' is looking to recast the role of Joey Buchanan. The previous actor to play the role is Nathan Fillion. Fillion is a little busy these days on ABC's prime time hit 'Castle,' so don't expect him to pull double-duty by returning to the soap.

So, ABC is looking for a new man to bring Joey to life. The casting notice describes the 2010 edition of Joey as, "mid to late 30's, extremely good-looking, successful, warm, kind, charming, finance guy."

jefff_phillips_guiding_lightNew Man In Pine Valley

Former 'Guiding Light' star, Jeff Phillips -- remember him as Hart Jessup? -- will be moving west to take a role on 'AMC." Phillips will be playing Nick Pearson.

Pearson is involved with Ryan (Cameron Mathison) when he tries to help figure out whether or not Lavery was responsible for David's death.

Phillips' first airdate is Oct. 13. The role, at this point, is considered short term.
