Colbert Channels Dr. Strangelove: Nuke 1,000 Korans to Stop the 'Ground Zero Mosque' (VIDEO)

Stephen Colbert's Plan to Stop the Ground Zero Mosque: 'Nuke' the Koran'Colbert Report' host Stephen Colbert is always full of ... blatantly idiotic ideas. And tonight's episode (weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central) provided us with more of the same. Stephen took on the seemingly endless 'Ground Zero Mosque' controversy, and came up with a "clever" plan to prevent the mosque/community center from being built.

Here was his plan: Bury one thousand copies of the Koran -- the Muslim holy book -- along with a nuclear weapon. If the ribbon for the mosque is ever cut, then the nuke will detonate, blowing up all the copies of the Koran. According to him, this will stop any would-be mosque-builders in their tracks. It's total deterrence! It's mutually assured destruction!

Stephen's plan is a brilliantly stupid one that is worthy of, say, Wile E. Coyote. (Although what he's actually parodying in the clip is the classic movie, 'Dr. Strangelove.')

By the way, in a total coincidence, the 'New York Post' reported today on what to do if a nuclear bomb explodes in or around New York City. So now we will know what to do if Stephen's plan is ever enacted. The 'Post's' advice: seek shelter underground. Also brilliant! See, without this advice, you probably would have just stood around and gawked if a nuke went off, never thinking to take cover or anything like that. It's great that we have wise, wise Stephen and the very wise 'New York Post' to tell us what to do in our lives. Thank goodness for that.
