'American Idol' Accepting Online Auditions This Season

by PopEater Staff, posted Sep 16th 2010 12:20PM
'American Idol'Can't make it to one of the audition locations for the upcoming season of 'American Idol?" Don't fret! You can now audition online, UsMagazine.com reports.

In celebration of the show's 10-year anniversary, 'Idol' will be partnering with MySpace to allow aspiring singers the opportunity to audition online for the first time in 'Idol' history.

In a statement released on Wednesday, 'Idol' said audition videos could be uploaded to MySpace's American Idol mini-site until Oct. 6. The guidelines state entries must be sung a cappella and chosen from an approved list of songs. Some of the approved songs include Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine," Keith Urban's "Kiss a Girl" and Barry Manilow's "Copacabana, MTV.com reports.

The entry videos are limited to 40 seconds in length and only one is allowed per person. A select few will move forward from these online auditions to the callback round in Los Angeles.

The audition announcement comes just days after it was revealed Jennifer Lopez would be joining Randy Jackson as an 'Idol' judge for the 10th season. Her paycheck? A cool $12 million.

Expect a lot of hell-raisin' if one of the YouTube contestants win the "competition". If they're going to let wana-be's sent in a clip, how don't they just YouTube an audience to sit through this embarrassment.

My God, with the economy as such, what is her status that she should be getting a one year contract(believe to be true), and getting paid $12million dollars, disgusting! This is a new position for her, and if she couldn't take the terms offered, she truly didn't want the job! Can only imagine how inept and immature she'll be, not an icon like her hubby, or Steven Tyler, but a greedy, attention getting, spoiled, obnoxious, let me not go on, she's not going to be straightforward, honest, or able to critique the contestants fairly without flubbing her words.
How amazing, "America's Got Talent" did use the internet to obtain talent for the show, and now American Idol too? Simon has his hands in this I am sure!
Good Bye Simon Cowell, So-Long American Idol.

It all started when Paula left. Last season was the most lackluster group I've ever seen. Now with Simon gone, the fun (and I think show) will see that the fat lady has indeed sung her final note. Sad.

American Idol has lost it's viewer's all by it's self. It put it's self on the way out.I'll not be watching this season no matter who they get for a judge this season.

I hope that AI will choose people who really have fantastic voices. For the last few years, those who have won, can't sing for beans. This is not "POP IDOL" this is American Idol. Only great voices wanted! Do not allow 10-12 year olds to vote and tip the scales because they think someone is cute.

Jennifer Lopez as a judge She is a fat, untalented person who achieved fame because she is Latino, period! - we won't be watching this year - especially after the bores who won the past 2 years! What were their names? We forgot about them - like everyone else did - 2 days after they won.

J-Lo as a judge! She is so very untalented - why her????? They should have kept Kara and just had 2 judges. Now if they could only choose 12 excellent singers/performers instead of the usual 10 karoke high school talent show contestants. The show is so over!

cant say how much I totally agree.. why would have possessed them to make this jennifer lopez a judge? Diddy make her this "j lo" a..but more to the point what is the problem with putting a judge on board that can actually SING! what is wrong with the Divas out there like Ah...Gladys, Patty, Toni, Tina and I mean both Turner and Marie.. I mean really..what's the problem? I can say I for one will not be watching this year...no way no how.. and I have never missed a season..goodbye idol I wont miss you

If Idol judges throw out a lot of good singers, then how can they judge online; the lack of acoustics & shallow sounds?
