Dancing With the Stars Cast
The first night jitters are officially out of the way. Twelve stars and their celebrity pro partners took to the dance floor and performed either a Cha-Cha or a Viennese Waltz on the 'Dancing With the Stars' season 11 opening night show. Actress Jennifer Grey, singer Brandy Norwood and athletes Rick Fox and Kurt Warner performed well -- as expected -- but the surprise of the night was teen actor Kyle Massey, who brought to mind a young Warren Sapp (Kym Johnson's season 7 partner) when he performed a dynamite dance with Lacey Schwimmer.

TV Squad was on the post-show press line to get reactions from all 24 participants. For one unlucky couple, alas, it's their second-to-last interview, because tonight one duo is going home.

Jennifer Grey and Derek HoughJennifer Grey and Derek Hough
On what about Derek reminds her of the late Patrick Swayze: "I would say ... focused, fearless and foxy! No, seriously, honestly, he is very focused, he is very fearless and he's also protective and he pushes me. I feel well taken care of." -- Jennifer
On if there's a pun about 'Dirty Dancing' that she hasn't heard: "I don't know. I'm still waiting." -- Jennifer
"I got dibs on the first one by telling her she'll have the 'time of her life.'" -- Derek

The SituationMike "The Situation" Sorrentino and Karina Smirnoff

On if if it was a mistake to tell the judges they only had five days to practice: "We tried our best. We were smiling. I think people know the judges were hard on me. Everyone knows we only had five days. I jumped off the stage." -- The Situation
"And it was true; we really did only have five days." -- Karina
On why he signed up for the show: "I took this competition to show a different side of me. There are a lot of people who have the wrong idea about me. I want to show people I am the type of guy who will go out of his element and will go out and make a fool out of himself." -- The Situation
"And wear heels, tight pants and rhinestones while doing it." -- Karina
On misconceptions about The Situation: "He's not what I see on 'Jersey Shore.' I thought I was going to have my hands full. He's sweet, kind, respectful, a hard worker. He tries anything that I ask him to. That's the part I want America to see." -- Karina

Florence Henderson and Corky BallasFlorence Henderson and Corky Ballas
On having a large fan base from 'The Brady Bunch': "I have received so much affection by having been Carol Brady. I answer every piece of fan mail, sign every picture. That's how I've lived my life and my career." -- Florence
On stepping on and over Corky at the end of the dance: "That was all Corky! He's so creative and fun. He finds a way to make me laugh, and when I laugh I can learn." -- Florence
On why it took so long to be invited onto the show: "They're saving the best for last, brother!" -- Corky
"I don't believe there are any accidents. Maybe Corky wasn't available until now?" -- Florence

Kyle Massey and Lacey SchwimmerLacey Schwimmer and Kyle Massey
On finishing his first dance:
"It feels good to have it be done! There was so much anticipation, but that made it more fun." -- Kyle
On working with Lacey: "We have a connection that a lot of people don't have with their partners." -- Kyle
On working with Kyle: "We have fun in rehearsals. We're never angry with each other. He listens and trusts me. We respect each other. [Laughs] We're pretty much the perfect pair!" -- Lacey
On why she went blond: "Boredom. Why not? I like it. I get a lot of 19-year-olds staring at me in places they normally wouldn't! For me, it's fun. People are so uptight about their hair and makeup. I say, 'Go have fun with it.'" -- Lacey

Michael Bolton and Chelsie HightowerMichael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower
On Chelsie as a teacher:
"Chelsie's awesome, phenomenal and she has the patience of a saint. She's also very focused. She bears with me and when it comes time she cracks the whip. This is a world that's foreign to me." -- Michael
On how Michael's fan base will keep him in the game till the dancing kicks in: "Once you're a fan of somebody's, you're going to be loyal to that person for all time. The thing about Michael is that when you get to know him, you get to have a whole new adoration for him. He is so kind, humble and funny. His fans are loyal. They'll stand by him." -- Chelsie
On dancing to one of Michael's songs: "I totally would if they would let us." -- Chelsie

Bristol Palin and Mark BallasBristol Palin and Mark Ballas
On how her first dance went: "I thought it went well, very well. I had fun out there. That's all that matters." -- Bristol
On having Mark as a teacher: "Mark is awesome. He gives me the confidence to shake my hips and jump out of my comfort zone." -- Bristol
On reports that Bristol's mother, Sarah Palin, was set to attend Monday's taping: "No. Schedules didn't work so she wasn't able to come." -- Bristol
On Mark's buzz cut: "I'm going to keep it. It's less time in the hair trailer!" -- Mark

Kurt WarnerKurt Warner and Anna Trebunskya
On his smile and charm keeping him in the game until his technique kicks in: "I hope that happens. That's the one thing Anna told me: To connect and smile. Hopefully, that will get us through for a few weeks." -- Kurt
On Anna, the teacher: "She's an amazing dancer and teacher. What I appreciate the most about her is that even though we don't speak the same language she does a great job of figuring out something [to do] that I can understand. She has a great way of being patient." -- Kurt
On getting another athlete: "I am so excited to be partnered with Kurt. I couldn't have wished for a better player. He's a team player, a hard worker, he's focused and very respectful and smart." -- Anna

Rick Fox and Cheryl BurkeRick Fox and Cheryl Burke
On the pros to Rick being tall: "He's a strong man. If we get to a point where he can lift me, he can do it with one finger." -- Cheryl
On if she'll wear heels every week:
"Yeah. Seriously. He's wearing flats." -- Cheryl
"I can go a little bit lower." -- Rick
On what other performances they enjoyed: "I loved watching Kyle. He was so entertaining. I wasn't expecting that. He's quite an entertainer and had a lot of confidence. He looked great." -- Cheryl
On if he's ever had a coach as pretty as Cheryl: "I've never had a female coach and never one this pretty." -- Rick

Audrina Patridge and Tony DovolaniAudrina Patridge and Tony Dovolani
On the benefits of dancing first: "You get it over with! You get to show what you've learned." -- Audrina
"Audrina had a fear of performing in front of a live audience; what better way to face that fear than by going first? She came in ready to be challenged. That's exactly what we did." -- Tony
On the game plan for next week: "Bring more of her out there. We're so motivated to go back to the studio and learn a dynamite quick step." -- Tony
On going all the way to the finals: "Tony's a great teacher. We work really well together. We have fun doing it, but we're also very serious." - Audrina

David Hasselhoff and Kym JohnsonDavid Hasselhoff and Kym Johnson
On his performance:
"I thought it went great considering we only had three weeks to get in shape. I peaked about two or three days ago when I really got it down. [But] I woke up [Monday] morning not remembering anything. I would have liked to have done better for Kym." -- David
"I felt badly for David. He tried really hard. The judges were hard on him. I hope we get through. There are so many fun things I have planned for this season with him." -- Kym
On Kym looking like Pamela Anderson in their first dance: "Yeah. She does. Exactly. She's terrific." -- David
"It wasn't intentional. When I got out of the hair trailer before the show I thought, 'Oh, I look like Pamela Anderson' -- which is not a bad thing at all!" -- Kym

Margaret Cho and Louis Van Amstel
On why she put so much comedy into her routine:
"It was only two moments. Because the judges commented on it so much it got blown out of proportion." -- Louis
"You don't want to lose a sense of who you are. It's important to me to be a visible comedienne and to do a beautiful dance, too." -- Margaret
On there being more comedy in future routines: "I think there has to be. To me, it's about staying true to who you are. You can't worry about what other people think." -- Margaret
On the differences between Margaret and season 10 partner Niecy Nash: "They're completely different. They're both comediennes, but everything else is completely different. Niecy is 'on' all the time. Margaret is quiet and shy. Really focused and smart. They could both learn from each there." -- Louis

BrandyBrandy Norwood and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
On what she likes best about Maks: "What I love about Maks the most is that he really wants to win and I want to win. He has the 'Eye of the Tiger;' I want to find mine. I think he can help me find it." -- Brandy
On what he likes best about Brandy: "Her spirit is definitely something to be worked off of. She's very talented naturally, very able, very skilled. But I don't need any of that. I just want her to want this for all the right reasons." -- Maks
On dancing to a song of Brandy's or one from 'Cinderella': "It's her call. I get what I get." -- Maksim
"If we could make up a routine, I think any song would be great! Maks will make it look beautiful whatever song we choose." -- Brandy

I would have to say that my favorite to win would be Jennifer & Derek.

Sadly, we haven't seen much of Jennifer in the movies or TV. "Sadly", because I think she is one of the most over-looked actresses in Hollywood.

She reminds me of Sally Field, Sandra Bullock, ...and even Audery Hepburn, in the respect that in whatever she does, she brings a down-to-earth, common sense, non-pretentious "Real Person" touch to any performance. A trait that viewers can relate to & identify with.

Such a talent is rare, and will serve her well on the show. A perfect move here...reminds us of those few that we did ourselves. A slip-up, and we relate to those we've done as well.

This every-girl/every-person quality she has about her, will make her a favorite very soon.

Plus, ... the gal can Dance!

Dear Brooke:
I love watching dancing with the stars, but wonder why such a pretty girl as yourself chooses to dress so immodestly. I'm sick of looking at your fake breast. Is it Money? Is that the reason you have sold your soul to the devil? Marie Jaquez
