A Classic Police Maneuver Against a Dirty Cop on 'NCIS: LA' (VIDEO)

'NCIS: LA'It's tough discovering that one of your brothers-in-arms has betrayed you, and that's exactly what Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) had to face on the season premiere of 'NCIS: LA' (Tue., 9PM on CBS).

After coaxing a confession out of a dirty cop, Deeks was ready to hand him over to the custody of Callen (Chris O'Donnell) and Hanna (LL Cool J), but the guy just wouldn't shut up. "So tell me, Deeks," he goaded. "How was she in bed?"

And that was it, Deeks was lost to cop drama cliches that have been around for years and years. He'd probably grown up watching them on television a lot, because he knew every step of the process and executed it flawlessly.

Step 1) Ask the perp to repeat the snide remark they'd just said. Repeat this step over and over again until you are right in their face.

Step 2) Repeat step one, but now add the element of pointing your gun at them, raising your voice until you are screaming and drops of spittle are hitting them in the face. Note their frightened silence.

Step 3) At this point it is essential that one of your fellow officers calls you off. You cannot be seen to be backing down on your own. [Luckily for Deeks, the other assembled officers knew what he was doing by this point and played their roles to perfection. It was Ruah (Kensi Blye) who talked him down.]

Step 4) Back away, dropping or re-holstering your weapon, then turn your back on the perp. This allows them to start relaxing, thinking the assault is over.

Step 5) With an instant shout of rage, turn and attack the perp, pounding on him/her with the full fury of your rage until you are pulled away by another officer.

Step 6) When the perp starts asking the other police officers present to act as witness to your assault, they have the most important role of all: None of them saw anything.

This script was executed to perfection by the fine officers of the Los Angeles division of the NCIS. A round of applause for all involved.
