Betty White Spreads Rumors About Her and Ryan Reynolds on 'The Tonight Show' (VIDEO)

'The Tonight Show'By now, everybody knows that Betty White is quite the little rascal. So it's no wonder that she was ready to start spreading rumors about her and Ryan Reynolds on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM on NBC). A rather intentional slip of the tongue and the gossip rags would be all over it with headlines like 'Octogenarian Cougar Betty White's Sordid Affair With Ryan Reynolds. Wife Scarlett Johansson Enraged, But Not Surprised.'

The pair were together across from Leno when the host asked if White had any dirt on Reynolds, to which she knowingly replied, "No, I've never had him. I mean, had any dirt on him."

Reynolds called her on it. "Always starting rumors," he said.

"Oh well sure," she responded. "Why not?"

We also learned that peer pressure never stops being an influence on us. White succumbed to it in making a Funny or Die! video with Reynolds (you can see it in its entirety here) around the time of 'The Proposal, their film with Sandra Bullock who also appears in the short.

According to White, she rejected the first script, which was filled with the f-word "How did we ever talk to each other before they invented that word?" she mused. "Because that's the only word that anybody uses." But when Bullock was swearing like "a rather well-built gorgeous sailor" in the piece, Betty decided "I've gotta join the club somewere, so I gave him the finger," referring to Reynolds.

"So the other kids are doing it, you had to do it, too?" Leno asked.

"I had to do it, too," White agreed. "As my mother said, 'If they committed murder, would you have to commit murder, too?'" All we can say is we're glad Betty White's friends were in acting instead of mass murder, or we might not have her in entertainment today, but rather on 'America's Most Wanted.'

I ALWAYS LOVED BETTY WHITE.BUT SHE HAS LOST ME.I DO NOT SWEAR, HATE THE F WORD IT'S LIKE PEOPLE FORGOT HOW TO EXPRESS THEIR SELF ANY MORE JUST USE THAT WORD I HATE THAT WORD. MY GROWN CHILDREN HAVE NEVER HEARD ME SWEAR .OH AND I HAVE BEEN MARRIED TO THE SAME MAN FOR 62 YEARS AND NEVER EVER BEEN WITH ANOTHER MAN BUT MY HUSBAND .I THINK THE REASON PEOPLE DON'T STAY MARRIED ANY MORE IS ALL THE BED HOPPING THEY DID BEFORE OR JUST DON'T GET MARRIED.I FIRMLY BELEIVE IN MARRIAGE..CLEAN YOUR MOUTHS UP PEOPLE.

Sorry just checked Barbara Lawrence piece to find it was published in 1973 not 1974. Also reprinted in Red Book.

And Barbara was pretty old when that was printed nearly 40 years ago. Her opinion comes out of an era, long since past. I bet you were a friend of hers...too obscure for anything else.

To use an old-timey expression, Betty White is a disgrace to her age group - to women in general.
And f word use is a kind of hate talk. Look up the BarbAra Lawrence (associate professor ofhumanities at the State University of Old Westbury 1974 NY Times op ed piece...Isn't a Dirty Word." Profanity in general is a kind of hate talk - a violent form of verbiage.
it incites ill will and violence.

Also White is wrong to say everyone trash talks; many people, especially elder persons, eschew the f and other profane and blasphemous words.

White is the epitome of immaturity and coming from an elder celeb who should know better, her immaturity is definitely not benign. Indeed the whole Golden Girls series pushed the envelope in ways women their age would not do. BRING BACK tHE wALTONS

You're crazy. Where does it say that she says only trash uses the word? She even said that she turned down the script because of the word. And what are uses words like "eschew"for? No one talks like that. I know what the word means so don't leave a snotty remark about me not knowing what it means. And no one's going to look up anything about the State University of Old Westbury.This is about Betty White and no ones reading this to be educated. It's all in fun so get a sense of humor.
