Katy Perry's 'Sesame Street' Appearance Cut Because of Her Cleavage

by Catherine Lawson, posted Sep 23rd 2010 10:40AM
Katy Perry in 'Sesame Street' Katy Perry won't be guesting on 'Sesame Street' after all. The singer's duet with Elmo, which was shown online, caused so much controversy about her cleavage that producers decided to pull the segment from the TV broadcast.

According to TMZ, some viewers objected that Perry was showing too much cleavage. Even though the song, 'Hot N Cold,' was cleaned up for an audience of children, and Perry's assets were contained by flesh-colored mesh, the segment was deemed too risqué and will live on in YouTube-only infamy.

Ahead of the premiere of its 41st (!) season, 'Sesame Street' is trying to be relevant to current popular culture. This season the puppets will even tackle a spoof of HBO's gore-fest, 'True Blood.

The Live Feed snagged a sneak peek of the parody, which sends up the diner scene that opened 'True Blood' in its series premiere. The 'Sesame Street' version follows a grouch who slumps into a diner desperate for some 'True Mud' but who gets offered all manner of rhyming alternatives, such as 'True Spud.'

The upcoming season will also feature a guest appearance by Irish bad boy (and father of two) Colin Farrell, who has described it as "one of the highlights" of his career. He'll play a detective helping Elmo and Murray the Monster teach viewers about the word of the day, "investigate." An excited Farrell said, "We did a scene with a couple of talking carrots and s***. ... It was genius!" Hopefully, Farrell's cameo won't get cut, too.

The 41st season of 'Sesame Street' premieres Sept. 27, on PBS.

well you are either a woman like the one on Dr. Phil a little while ago that had 2 daughters and Phil called her an enabler as her daughters were totally and completely out of control and the little fool of a mother didn't know why, didn't have a clue or you are a guy that just doesn't want any censorship to prevent you from seeing naked women on mainstream TV. If you're a woman then you're like so many who just refuse to understand, admit, own up to, or just plain out realize that a woman's body excites a man, this is why you are used in far more ads, half naked or as close to being naked as they can get away with, than any other item. The results of a woman teasing and taunting a man go something like this. The first one has a wife or girlfriend so he goes and gets it on with her, problem solved. The second one doesn't have anyone so he goes and jerks off, problem relieved temporarily. The third one has no one and jerking off doesn't help so he heads out to find some unsuspecting innocent person as we read about more and more each day of the week. The stopped commercials about cigarettes hoping it would help people and their addiction to nicotine. They've tried to pass more and more law about the types of food people consume that are causing health problems and yet the fools of this world ignore why our sexual problems are fueled daily and why the sex offenders are growing at such a horrible rate in our communities and we damn sure are not talking about the 18 year old kid that had sex with the 16 yr. old girl. No, no, we're talking about things that are much much worse and leaving children scarred or worse.

This is ridiculous! First of, I don't see anything out of line here -are we back to settlement times??. Besides, I do not blame K. Perry for her dress choice. Shows have guidelines, costume fittings, directors, rehearsals, etc. If there was something to be said about the dress they could have done it prior to approval and showtime!

it wasn't Sesame Street that had the problem. it was whackos that saw it on YouTube first before it aired on TV.

I don't see that Katy showed more in the chest than Miss Piggy. Thinkerbell and Barbie display as much cleavage not to mention Tinks micro dress. No wonder Peter didn't want to leave Neverland.

Did Sesame Street provide the outfit for her. If she was dancing w/ Miss Piggy, than I'd have an issue with. Very nice cleavage.

Sorry, I meant the producers should've known that
the record the kids were listening to while they
danced for the instructor in that one clip that
aired 10 years ago on Sesame Street, that was the
instrumental version of Busta Rhymes' "Outta Here".

While we're on the subject of cuts on Sesame Street,
has anything been done about the dance instructor
and her children in one clip dancing to a hip-hop
instrumental of Busta Rhymes' "Outta Here"? I'd like
to see it brought back or remade with a different,
non-rap influenced beat, so that children won't be
encouraged to listen to anything like that after they
watch an episode of Sesame Street. That clip aired
almost 10 years ago, but I remember the instrumental,
and she shouldn't have used that record for the kids.
The producers known it was Busta Rhymes' Outta Here.

Hey kids, you know those things you drank from for a year or so as a baby that hang from your mommy's chest? Those things that all women are born with? The things you see every day on TV, in magazines, on billboards, in the park, the mall, your mom and sister, cousins, aunts, grandmothers, the very same fleshy things that Mary used to nurse Jesus, that thing of many things which makes a woman a woman, which all mammals have and use on the planet Earth to nurture their young? Yeah, those things are evil and if you so much as look at them or the area above them where they meet the chest it's a sin and you're going to hell. Just fyi, kiddo.
