Steven and Samantha Bloom Get Hot for Explosions and Gunfire on 'Undercovers' (VIDEO)

'Undercovers'J.J. Abrams returns to television with a new series, and what it lacks in smoke monsters and donkey wheels, it makes up for in explosions and kicking butt. 'Undercovers' (Wed., 8PM on NBC) stars Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Steven and Samantha Bloom, two former CIA agents pulled back into the job when Sam's former partner goes missing. And they aren't pulling any punches.

When shooting at a suspect in a high-speed car chase, if they refuse to stop, never be afraid to resort to a rocket launcher. This is why they were invented; for use on the freeway, as Samantha proved to great effect tonight.

[NOTE: Spoiler Alert]

While it is suspected that the missing friend, Agent Nash (Carter MacIntyre), may have turned due to his workings with Russian arms dealer Alexander Schlotsky -- he who took a rocket blast to the underside of his vehicle -- he proves himself loyal to the cause. Nash even tries to apologize to Steven for having slept with his wife when they were partners.

But what's the most impressive is how quickly Nash can recover from injuries. While Steven and Nash are apologizing back and forth; Steven is sorry for thinking Nash might have turned; Nash appears severely injured and is leaning most of his weight onto Leo.

However, when a man bursts through the door behind them, they both turn, standing upright, and fire in perfect unison. It's like synchronized gunplay, which should definitely be an Olympic event, but what happened to all of that leaning and limping, Nash? Was it all just a ploy for sympathy? You do realize Sam wasn't there to kiss it and make it all better, right?

While it so far lacks the mind-bending complexity of 'Lost,' Abrams latest project promises to be a lot of high-energy fun. So if you like your procedurals with a little more adrenaline, this might be worth tuning in.

I admit it was a fun show. First NBC show in a long while I actually enjoyed watching.

I have to ask though, what is the fascination with CIA this year? Between major motion pictures and television writers, the "warm fuzzies" they are trying to create about working in the CIA is almost border line creepy.
Strangely enough, I haven't seen a show about the agency that I didn't like yet. Go figure!

Umm...It's STEVEN and Samantha Bloom. Leo was Agent Nash's first name.

Loved the show. It was a lot of fun to watch.
