Who In 'The League' Drafted The Best Fantasy Football Team?
The second season of FX's 'The League,' a show about five man-children and their fantasy football league, premiered to its best ratings ever last week. The producers opened big by sending the crew to Las Vegas for their fantasy draft, where Cincinnati Bengal Chad Ochocinco made a cameo. The move paid off; viewers of its big-brother show 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' and sports fans alike have latched on, and 'The League' just might be breaking out this season.
The show is mostly about five buddies living their lives and taunting each other, but it features a constant stream of football references and fantasy banter. Since it tapes months before the start of the NFL season, the writers have to predict which players will be relevant enough for the characters to obsess over. In the first episode, the guys drafted the 14 players they wanted to own on their fantasy teams. After two weeks of NFL play in the real world, which 'League' character drafted best?
There are numerous formats and scoring methods a fantasy football league can use to decide their winner. However, from the details they've given in the show, the guys seem to have a standard scoring eight-man league. We took a screen-shot of their draft board from the season premiere. From that, we built their starting lineups based on the best players they drafted at each position. Most standard leagues start one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one flex position where either a WR or RB can start, one tight end, one kicker and one team defense.

After two weeks, Andre Nosik (Paul Scheer) currently has a slight lead in overall points. Andre is the butt of most jokes amongst the guys and the surprise winner from last season.
Pete Eckhard (Mark Duplass) is the usual winner of the league and alpha male of their group. He had the first pick of the draft, and you'd think, being recently separated from his wife, he'd have nothing to focus on but the league. However, he's currently in the lower half in overall points.
Kevin McArthur (Stephen Rannazzisi) is normally a good player but always relied on his wife Jenny (Katie Aselton) for advice. To spite Kevin, Jenny is now helping Rodney Ruxin (Nick Kroll) who has never won a season. Her help seems to be paying off; Rodney is currently residing much higher than Kevin in the standings.
Taco McArthur (Jon Lajoie) is Kevin's wayward brother, who cares more about women and rapping than football. However, this year he had a surprisingly great draft. Even more surprising is Rafi, Rodney's brother-in-law. He knows less than Taco, choosing to blindly reach in the names to pull his first draft pick, which happened to be a kicker. No one drafts a kicker until their last pick. He went on to draft another two kickers later. Still, somehow his team has the second highest point total.
