Daniel Dae Kim Was 'Lost,' But Then He Found A New Role in Hawaii With 'Five-0' (VIDEO)

Daniel Dae Kim, 'The Early Show'It's a pretty special treat for an actor when they get to star in two back-to-back series that are both critically acclaimed and successful. Daniel Dae Kim is poised to do that, but with a twist that make his experience even more extraordinary. With 'Hawaii Five-0' premiering strong for CBS he may have the rare treat of having those back-to-back shows filmed in Hawaii; 'Lost' was filmed there as well.

"I don't know what the odds are of that," Kim told Harry Smith of 'The Early Show' (Weekdays, 7AM on CBS), "But I'll bet they're pretty slim." Somebody should have been playing the lottery while he was at it. After 'Lost' wrapped and most of his castmates headed back to the mainland, Kim stayed on the islands to welcome his new castmates to its beauty and wonders.

"I remember when we (the cast of 'Lost') first moved to the islands," he said. "We didn't know anyone. So we sort of hung out with each other and just kind of explored together. It would have been great to have a little tour guide or a host to kind of show me the little quiet spots to eat, and so I was happy to do that for them," he said referring to the new arrivals.

While 'Hawaii Five-0' was a hotly anticipated show across the United States, it was a different experience on the islands. "In Hawaii it's the namesake show," Kim explained. "And so everyone has an opinion about how 'Hawaii Five-0' should go." Opinions as specific as "Tell Scott Caan to speak up," as Kim received in a letter from one of his neighbors. Caan plays the iconic role of "Danno."

At this point, even after 'Hawaii Five-0' ends, hopefully after a long and successful run, Kim may just stay in Hawaii. By then his family will have deep roots in the island, and he'll be more than "almost the local," as Smith described him. He'll be as much a part of the islands of Hawaii as he was the Island on 'Lost.'
