'The Simpsons' Premiere: 'Glee,' 'Flight of the Conchords' Show Up and Sing (VIDEO)

This is the 22nd season of 'The Simpsons' (Sun., 8PM ET on Fox). Wow, has it really been that long? The years have just flown by. This particular 'TV Squad' writer still remembers when the first episode of the show came on. I happened to be in middle school when 'The Simpsons' debuted, which means that:1) I'm really old now.
And ...
2) Gosh, 'The Simpsons' has been on TV for a really long time. I also recall when the show was considered so scandalous that Bart Simpson t-shirts were banned in my school for being too "in your face," but that's neither here nor there ...
At any rate, moving on ... 'The Simpsons' is now a beloved cultural institution, featuring many, many celebrity guest stars. And tonight's episode is no different. The show welcomes Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, stars of 'Flight of the Conchords,' -- and members of the identically named band, which is "New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo a capella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo." Yay! ... Oh, and some people from 'Glee' show up as well.
[Warning: Spoiler alert.]
On tonight's episode, Bret and Jemaine play counselors who run a performing arts camp. (And yes, the premiere also features 'Glee' cast members Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, and Amber Riley. The actors/singers appear as fellow camp members, but they turn out to have a fairly small part in the episode.)
Ms. Lisa Simpson attends the camp in order to get more in touch with her creative side. Then, Lisa asks this question of her counselors: Could she move to the big city and become a real-life artist?
The pair of 'Conchords' reply in musical form. "Yes, Lisa, you can be an artist in the world/ So move to the city when you're less itty-bitty, girl/ To the gritty city when you're less itty-bitty, girl/ The city's pretty gritty for a itty-bitty girl." Uh-huh! That's some good yet terrible New Zealand-style folk rapping! (Which is what the Conchords specialize in.)
Naturally, Lisa ignores their advice about waiting until she's older, and instantly heads to the city anyway. Will disaster be the result?
And by the way, and for no major reason, here are two of our favorite songs from Bret and Jemaine's former HBO series. Please to enjoy ...
