Soap Casting News: 'All My Children' Adds Two Familiar Faces

by Allison Waldman, posted Sep 27th 2010 1:30PM
kimberlin_brown_cbs_sheilaLast week, there were comings and goings on 'All My Children,' and the Pine Valley folks are at it again. Two well-known daytime stars are joining the cast, including the infamous Sheila Carter.

Meanwhile, there are also 'One Life to Live' developments, and a sitcom star dropping into 'Days of Our Lives.' For all the news, read what's been happening around the dial in our weekly soap casting wrap-up.

Here Comes the Judge

One of the most prolific and well-known stars of daytime is checking in to Pine Valley. Kimberlin Brown is joining 'All My Children' as the judge in David Hayward's (Vincent Irizarry) murder case. Kimberlin's role -- as of now -- is short-term.

Why "as of now"? Because Brown's most famous role, Sheila Carter on 'The Young and the Restless' and 'The Bold and the Beautiful,' was never scripted as a long-term character. Brown was just so good and the character so compelling that she was extended on 'Y&R' and then brought back on 'B&B.' Who's to say that lightning can't strike twice? The Emmy-nominee will make her first appearance on Oct. 18. Here's hoping she's a corrupt judge who had connections to David before his "death."

Two guys from 'Y&R' --Michael Graziadei (Daniel) and Thad Luckinbill (JT) --will soon appear on 'CSI.' The duo have done some moonlighting from the soap and will appear in the Oct. 7 episode of the crime procedural. The episode is called 'Blood Moon,' and seems to be inspired by 'Twilight,' 'True Blood' and 'Vampire Diaries.'

The Las Vegas crime lab night crew investigate a vampire and werewolf convention. The Genoa City guys, Graziadei and Luckinbill , are conventioneers who may or may not be suspects in the murder.

Daddy Dearest

There's been a big influx of new characters on 'One Life to Live' involving Inez Salinger (Jessica Leccia) and the Ford boys. Now, they've finally cast the evil father who supposedly abused them all. John Wesley Shipp is joining 'OLTL' as evil Eddie, the old man from hell. Shipp will be a familiar face to most soap fans.

He played Doug Cummings on 'As the World Turns," as well as Kelly Nelson on 'Guiding Light.' (He was an Emmy winner for the latter role.) Both those stints were in the 1980s, as was his first role on 'OLTL' as Blanchard Lovelace in 1989. More recently, he played Mitch Leery, Dawson's dad, on 'Dawson's Creek.' He also starred in CBS's version of the comic book hero 'The Flash' (anyone remember that?). Shipp sails into Llanview in early November.

If you want a funny bit on a soap, cast a comic actor. 'Days of Our Lives' welcomes French Stewart to the show this week. The actor, who was hilarious on the NBC sitcom 'Third Rock from the Sun,' will be playing Keith, a pet cemetery caretaker. He'll be appearing on 'Days' in scenes with Brady (Eric Martsolf), who is trying to track down where his mother's remains have been dumped by Vivian (Louise Sorel). Except Brady has to convince Keith that he's looking for the remains of Sparkles, his pet orangutan.

Stewart told TV Guide of his character, "He's sort of an odd guy who lopes around the cemetery. ... My character doesn't understand why Brady would want to take his precious pet to the competition, reminding him that this is the best pet cemetery in the country. Only in Salem."

More big news from 'AMC': Daniel Cosgrove is returning to the role of Scott Chandler. Daniel now that 'As the World Turns,' on which he played Chris Hughes, stopped spinning. That made him available and 'AMC' came calling. Cosgrove replaces Adam Mayfield, who was let go as we reported last week.

Daniel last played Scott in 1988. He'll be on screen in December, when the drama involving Caleb (Michael Nouri), JR (Jacob Young) and Annie (Melissa Claire Egan) should escalate.

'Big' News on 'The Bold and the Beautiful'

Keeping up the CBS tradition of reality stars dropping into daytime soaps, watch for 'Big Brother' stars Rachel Reilly and Brendon Villegas to show up on 'B&B' on Oct.25 and 26. The pair, who engaged in the showmance of the summer,' will appear at the Bikini Beach; Rachel will be a waitress and Brendon a bartender ... or vice versa. No, just kidding.

Guess Who's Not Leaving 'OLTL' After All?

Reports of Florencia Lozano's exit from 'OLTL' have been exaggerated. On screen, her character, Téa Delgado (Florencia Lozano), was pronounced dead after succumbing to a brain tumor. Yes, well, not really. It turned out that Dr. Greg Evans (Terrell Tilford) had been blackmailed into giving her that fatal diagnosis and has put her in a coma and hidden her away from her family.

In the Sept. 20 episode, Greg vented and told all. And to whom did he confess? Téa ! So, watch for Téa to regain consciousness and get into the action in the next few week.
