'The Good Guys' Face a Permanent Vacation -- Will the Show Survive? (VIDEO)

'The Good Guys' Face a Permanent Vacation -- Will the Show Survive? The cop buddy show 'The Good Guys' (Fri., 9PM ET on Fox) has been away on hiatus. The series debuted this summer -- receiving critical praise, but also some fairly lousy ratings. Now, it's back to finish up its first season -- mainly because the Fox Network had already ordered a season-long run of the show.

But on the new episode following the break, the main characters already find themselves facing a vacation that could last ... forever. Will they (and the series) manage to survive?

[Warning: Spoiler alert.]

Dan Stark (Bradley Whitford) fouls up, as is pretty standard on the show. While pursuing a purse-snatcher, he commandeers a car, and manages to cause thousands of dollars in damage during the ensuing chase. This results in Dan and his partner Jack (Colin Hanks) being suspended from the police force.

Of course, the buddies still can't manage to stay out of trouble, even while suspended. They soon find themselves entangled in a case involving a trio of Georgian criminals. (As in former Soviet Union Georgia, not the state where the Atlanta Braves play baseball.) While tracking the bad guys down, Dan and Jack find themselves facing a seemingly eight-feet-tall Georgian named Sasha, who dwarfs our two heroes. "Good thing there's two of us," Dan says. "Yeah, but there's like three of him," Jack replies.

Dan tries to psyche his partner up for the big fight against the enormous Sasha. "It's like 'Rocky IV!'" he says. "The ending!'" Dan then clarifies. "Not the beginning where the big Russian dude ... kills the black guy." Right! Good to know. Because the beginning of the movie would be a really terrible analogy at this point. (Though we have to admit that any sort of 'Rocky IV' reference always kind of makes us happy.)

In the end, the good guys find a way to win the battle, and even manage to get reinstated as cops. But so far, it seems unlikely that the show itself will be reinstated for another season. Have you been watching 'The Good Guys'? Do you think the series will get picked up again?

The show at first wasn't a favorite to my mind but it sorta grew on me and sorry to see it go. It has, sadly, been enmeshed in the public's disdain for this seasons generally lousy show line-up.
