USA Renews 'White Collar,' 'Royal Pains' and 'Psych'

USA NetworkSomething's working in the original programming department at USA. The network has just renewed 'White Collar,' 'Royal Pains' and 'Psych,' and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that means every single original series currently on the channel's lineup will return for another season.

'White Collar,' about a con man working with the FBI to catch white collar criminals, will return for a third season with 16 episodes. 'Royal Pains,' about a private doctor to the fabulously wealthy, will also get a third season, but most likely with 18 episodes to allow for two uninterrupted runs. 'Psych,' the network's long-running show about a police consultant and his buddy, will return for a sixth season of 16 episodes.

The trio of just-renewed shows join 'In Plain Sight,' 'Burn Notice,' 'Covert Affairs' and 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent' in returning to the network next year. "It's a wonderful validation that the shows are working," USA programming president Jeff Wachtel told THR.

Wachtel credits USA's success with the ability to pick and choose quality shows. "In our early days, original programming was seen as an elective," he said. "It's not an elective anymore, but it's also not an imperative to fill time slots. We're still able to be more hand-crafted. We're not going to get to the point of, 'oh my god, we need a comedy block on Monday nights.' It's still going to remain 'no show before its time.'"

THR reports that the network is expected to pick up one or two more dramas and expand into other genres in the coming year.

I love "Psych" and have enjoyed "Royal Pains" this season. The other networks should follow USA's formula. Even if a show starts a little weak, stick with it longer than one episode and it may surprise you!

I'm thrilled to hear this news! I'm a huge fan of "Royal Pains" and I really like "Psych" as well. "Royal Pains," in particular, is one of my favorite shows. I like the writing on that show, and the cast works really well together. I really like the chemistry between Mark Feuerstein and Paulo Costanzo, and between Costanzo and Reshma Shetty. So glad it'll be back. And James Roday is just hilarious on "Psych."
