'Dancing With the Stars' Tries to Clear Up the Sarah Palin Booing Controversy (VIDEO)

'Dancing With the Stars' Tries to End the Sarah Palin Controversy: Says She Was NOT BooedMonday night, 'Dancing With the Stars' unintentionally entered the murky world of political controversy. Ex-Alaskan governor Sarah Palin showed up to support Bristol Palin -- her daughter and a current contestant on the show. Which is when things started to get weird. While host Brooke Burke interviewed Jennifer Grey and her partner Derek Hough, boos suddenly began rolling in from the audience.

Grey was confused, and thought that the crowd was attacking her. "Why are they booing?" she asked. Brooke said she didn't know. Seconds later, the camera cut to Sarah Palin, who looked confused and a little flustered. This led some viewers (and some members of the media) to conclude that Palin was the one being booed. So who or what was being jeered by the crowd? Sarah? Jennifer? The judges? On tonight's episode (Tue., 9PM ET on ABC), 'DWTS' tried to end the controversy.

In an unprecedented move, producers aired "raw" footage from the previous night. This was meant to provide much-needed context to what is now being called "Boo-Gate." (Isn't it cute how quickly people come up with names for these things?)

Here's what the unaired footage showed: First, the judges awarded their scores for Jennifer and Derek, who received 24 out of 30 (the highest scores of the night). Each member of the judging panel gave the couple an "8," ending with judge Bruno Tonioli. When Bruno held up his final scorecard, the members of the audience started to boo. "They're booing an 8!" he said.

Then, Tonioli turned and accosted the hecklers: "What's a-matter [with] you?!" he yelled jokingly, while gesturing at the crowd. At this point, Sarah Palin was announced as a guest, and the audience cheered.

All of which would seem to settle the controversy. The audience members were booing the judges' scores, not Ms. Palin. What a relief! Glad to have that all cleared up.

... On the other hand, not everyone is totally convinced by the newly released footage. So just for the heck of it, let's enter the weird world of quasi-conspiracy theories. Here are a couple of thoughts, in case you feel like continuing the debate:

1) Why would the audience boo the scores for Jennifer Grey, since she and her partner got the highest scores of the night? Were people really that disappointed by a 24 out of 30?

2) Why was only the final score booed? The audience wasn't annoyed by the the first two "8s," but only by the last one?

3) Why did the crowd behind the judges look like they were clapping? Does that mean the jeers were coming from somewhere else? (Maybe from near where Ms. Palin was sitting?)

There is also this report from an alleged audience member, who says that the crowd was cat-calling Sarah Palin, until they were told to stop. Though since this is written on an anonymous blog, we would treat this report with a hefty dose of skepticism.

In the end, it may come down to what you want to believe. If you feel like making the argument against Palin, you can say that the boos seemed to coincide with her arrival. On the other hand, all parties involved with the show declared that the audience was jeering the judges -- and it seems odd to go against the show's statements.

All we can say for sure is this -- 'DWTS' really wants to put this debate behind them. In fact, host Tom Bergeron tried to close things out with a joke. Tonight, he said this to the judges: "Sarah Palin told me before the show that she was surprised at all of the controversy because she was booing you guys, too." So, boos all around, then!

What do you guys think? Who do you believe? Should "Boo-Gate" be over and done with now?

OK...well let me respond to the raised questions in this article with: 1.) Are you hard of hearing? I can clearly hear a mixture of booing and cheering when the scores are being announced. It's not the typical abundance of cheering you hear when someone gets a 24. Furthermore, can you not hear the "NINES!" being shouted by one or more people in the audience? 2.) Are you implying that the audience booed her, had an immediate change of heart and started applauding and cheering for her when Tom announced her name? 3.) If you watch the video, the booing begins before Tom makes his way past the judges' table and over to Sarah Palin, so either the audience was able to predict the future and boo her before he sat down beside her, or they superimposed Tom for the purpose of this clarification and made it look like he was walking over to her AFTER the booing began. If they were booing her, they would probably just not address it...I doubt they'd sabatoge footage just to make their audience look less rude.

To tell the truth I didn't hear or didn't pay attention to any boo's till it was mentioned. Listening twice again I am still not sure what was that boo-ing all about. I DO NOT believe that people in the audience would be so stupid to boo Sarah. But then again, idiots are everywhere.

I don't care for Sarah Palin either, but come on, it's a dancing show. Nothing political, no hidden agenda, no conspiracy theory, just a freaking dancing show. It was clear the audience was upset that Jennifer and Derek got such a low score. I was upset too. I think they deserved all 9's, but the judges know what they're doing. They obviously thought they have a ways to go to get a nine. Get over "Boo-Gate".

There is no limit that the liberal left will go to villify Sara Palin or any other conservative. The vitriol shown this woman by the main stream press, the so called show biz media and the 4 dunderheads on ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN, is unprecedented. Not since the Nixon days have we seen such hate. Yet, when shown the obvious truth of DWTS Monday night they still want to believe the absurd. Look at the facts: The aundience for that show is seated over an hour ahead of showtime. The audience is a number of cuts above your average studio audience, they are all well dressed, groomed and appear fairly well to do. Also, it is scattered with many celebrities. Sara Palin would have been seated for some time before the cameras rolled. Anyone who knows Bruno Tonioli sees him riling up the crowd almost with every vote he gives. Even the boos for him were done in good fun as he is a show in himself. The unprecedented act of showing raw film footage by the producers of the actual sequence of events proves what actually happened. Good Lord, all the pro dancers fought to meet Palin and gave quotes to the media to that fact. It all boils down to the fact that Sara Palin is the single most popular and dynamic woman on the scene today and she is over shadowing Obama himself. In fact, at his recent appearance in, I believe Philadelphia, only 400 people showed up for a room that held 1200. There were also over a dozen protest groups with signs ridiculing Obama. None of this film appeared on the network news, only Fox showed it. Joe Biden drew only 25 people at a townhouse meeting two days ago. The libs have a lot to tuck tail for.

Why would anyone doubt that Sarah Palin got booed. Sarah Palin is a nightmare that could cause this country to be in even worse shape than it is. Don't people listen to what people close to Sarah Palin have said. Palin knows nothing about government or history or critical thinking. The fact that Palin has gotten any attention at all is proof of how many low information voters this country has. When clueless idiots like Palin gain power for no reason other than to make money, the entire country suffers.
