Beanbags, Barrels, and a Surprising Elimination on 'Survivor: Nicaragua' (VIDEO)
Last time on 'Survivor: Nicaragua' (Wed., 8PM ET on CBS), Shannon made the highly questionable decision of launching into a homophobic rant during the Tribal Council. This shocked the other players, and considerably simplified the decision of who to kick off. And so, Shannon swiftly got the boot. But now, it's Week Three, and the elimination this time around was a bit more ... unexpected.[Warning: Spoiler alert.]
The challenge on tonight's show involved barrels and beanbags. Our teams of young people and older people had to collect 10 barrels, arrange them in a pattern, then toss beanbags on top of them. For Team Espada (i.e., "Team Old People"), this seemed like a good time for coach Jimmy Johnson to show off his frequently praised "leadership skills." Unfortunately, things didn't work out so well.
Espada took an early lead, with Tyrone hitting five barrels in quick succession. But Johnson elected to keep Tyrone in the game for too long -- much to the aggravation of Jimmy T., who constantly (and we mean constantly) pestered Johnson to let him play instead. Eventually, Tyrone wore himself out, and La Flor ("Team Young People") took the lead.
Jimmy J. switched tactics at last and let Jimmy T. in the game -- but it was too late. La Flor won the challenge, and Espada had to trudge sadly back to their camp. Once they were back, Jimmy T. continued to whine about how his talents were being wasted. But Jimmy J. defended his decision to keep Tyrone in the game.
Then, it was Tribal Council time! In keeping with the general theme of the day, Jimmy T. was petulant and grouchy, stating that there were "three or four" weak players on his team. Host Jeff Probst wanted to know who the weak links were, and asked each Espada contestant if they were holding the tribe back.
Unsurprisingly, no one admitted to being the weakest link ... until we got to the last person to speak: Mr. Jimmy J. himself, who confessed: "I'm the oldest player -- and one of the weakest too." Whoa. Dude, don't say that! But it was too late. The damage was done. Voted were tallied and former football coach Jimmy Johnson became the third 'Survivor' player voted off this season.
This was definitely not a pleasing result for CBS or the show -- as he was the much hyped "celebrity" contestant. Will you guys keep watching 'Survivor,' now that Jimmy J. is gone? And should he have confessed his feelings of weakness? Was this a foolish choice -- or a disarmingly honest one?
