Jon Stewart Says Farewell to Comedian Greg Giraldo"The comedy world lost a good man," Jon Stewart said. "... He was just one of those guys you loved to run into, because he was always a font of warmth and good humor." Stewart was speaking of his friend, stand-up comic Greg Giraldo, who passed away this Wednesday, September 29th. Giraldo was 44 years old, and left behind a wife and four children. On 'The Daily Show' (weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central), Jon took a moment to mourn his friend, as the words "WE'LL MISS YOU, BROTHER" flashed onto the screen.

Giraldo was beloved in the comedy world. He was well-known for his appearances as a judge on 'Last Comic Standing,' and his many appearances on various late night shows and Comedy Central specials. The comic's greatest strength was his unique brand of "insult comedy" -- which he displayed to hilarious effect at the roasts of various celebrities, including David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson and Joan Rivers. (You can watch clips from all his celebrity roasts by going here.)

Greg was hospitalized last week following an overdose of prescription drugs, and died four days later, with his family at his side. Although the comedian had struggled with alcoholism over the years, he was believed to be clean and sober, and had been scheduled to do a performance honoring National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month.

Initial reports -- now believed to be incorrect -- stated that Giraldo had overdosed as part of a suicide attempt, but his death has been declared accidental.

The comic was originally trained as an attorney and graduated from Harvard Law School. He abandoned this occupation, and changed careers out of the desire to make others laugh. He succeeded, and is now mourned by friends and fans worldwide. Greg's official website now provides a link to his Facebook page, so that fans may share their memories, reflections, and best wishes to his family.

Rest in peace, Mr. Giraldo.
