'Grey's Anatomy' - Season 7, Episode 2 Recap
['Grey's Anatomy' - 'Shock to the System']When an episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' starts with the three quotes "I always wanted to wash your hair," "Go hug yourself" and "You smell like pee" you just know it's going to be interesting. The combination of the lightning patients and the parallel to the post-shooting victims was an interesting take on the whole "we survived" storyline.
This episode was the first in a while that I really liked all the song choices. The music playing when Cristina and Meredith were laying on the operating room floor was perfect and tugged at my heartstrings.
Meredith was on the ball, actually leading the episode. She didn't need to be doing surgery: All her interactions between Alex, Lexie, April, Derek, Owen and Cristina proved that she is still the string that holds all these characters together. She finally had the talk with Derek about the miscarriage and the two were still as strong as ever.
Cristina still stood out in the sea of characters. I thought it was wrong last week for Owen to take advantage of a mentally unstable Cristina, and his pushing caused her breakdown. Cristina still was sharp with her quotes, but the way that Sandra Oh can convey a lot in the moments of silence and stares won me over again. Owen wanted the best for Cristina, and I laughed whenever there were shots of Cristina attempting to eat multigrain bars.
I have never fully appreciated Teddy as a character, but I got a bit upset when she spoke in that stereotypical quick nervous talking that naturally either Grey sister, Cristina, Callie, or Izzie would have spoken in. I thought that she was more mature than that and her interaction with Arizona was supposed to be that "alternate woman" point of view.
The rest of the characters had small memorable moments. Seeing the chief light up when he was asked to go speeding with Derek proved that he could pick up an addiction like his drinking in an instant if he had an enabler. It was interesting to see Alex and Bailey finding closure. Their light reference to Reed and Percy was just enough of a touch to close the storyline. April was still annoying, but at least it was funny. Jackson managed to fit in really well the dynamics of the show and his clumsiness was an accident.
Finally, I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the touch screens being used because 'Project Runway' also shamelessly advertised their HP touch screens this week. It's interesting seeing how the technology has shifted in seven seasons.
