Facebook might be getting its due at the movies this weekend with the opening of 'The Social Network,' but the site (and some other fictional social networks) have been celebrated on TV for years. From Jim's oh-so-clever Halloween costume on 'The Office' or the up-and-coming NBC acquisition YouFace on '30 Rock,' we came up with a list of some of the greatest social networking tributes on television.YouFace, '30 Rock'
Jack reconnected with his high school flame, played by Julianne Moore, via NBC's "up-and-coming social networking site," YouFace. Users post their "PhoLo" -- "a contraction for Photo and Hello" -- and "FingerTag" -- contact -- their friends. In a relationship? Describe your status to the world using convenient terms like "Weirdsies" and "Working On It."
Jim's Halloween costume, 'The Office'During last year's Halloween episode, Jim turned his everyday work garb into a
Rachel's MySpace schedule, 'Glee'Before joining glee club, Rachel channeled her singing energy by filming videos to post on MySpace. "You might think that all the boys in school would totally want to tap this, but my MySpace schedule keeps me way too busy to date," she explained in the show's pilot episode. "I try to post a MySpace video every day, just to keep my talent alive and growing. Nowadays, being anonymous is worse than being poor. Fame is the most important thing in our culture now."
MyRoom and Facerange, 'Degrassi: The Next Generation'In 'Degrassi''s fictional world, MySpace and Facebook don't exist. Good thing there's MyRoom and Facerange! In a memorable sixth season episode, good-girl cheerleader Darcy Edwards (played by a pre-'90210' Shenae Grimes) posted naughty photos of herself on her MyRoom page and started a relationship with an online creepster. Don't worry. She learned her lesson and everything was okay in the end.
Phil's ex-girlfriend, 'Modern Family'Just like Jack Donaghy on '30 Rock,' Phil Dunphy used a social networking site to reconnect with a high school ex-girlfriend. When Phil tracked down his ex on Facebook, his wife warned that the woman's motives for meeting up might not be as pure as his. "Women in their 30s on the Internet, they're like ninjas. They get in their little black outfits and they try to sneak their way into your marriage," she said. She was right.
