Soap Casting News: Sebastian Roche Returning to 'GH' ... and More

by Allison Waldman, posted Oct 4th 2010 10:30AM
sebastian_roche_gh_abcAnother week and more comings and goings from the soap world. One very welcome return occurs on 'General Hospital,' while 'The Young and the Restless' is shifting out some stars to make room for new folks coming on board.

For all the news, read what's been happening around the dial in our weekly soap casting wrap-up.

Here's Jerry!

One of the best villains ever on 'General Hospital' is coming back! Sebastian Roche returns to 'GH' as Jerry Jacks on Dec. 13. Roche, who originally appeared in 2007 as a terrorist/hostage taker named James Craig, was later revealed to be Jax's (Ingo Rademacher) wayward brother.

Roche, who also played an assassin on '24' and has had a recurring role on 'Fringe.' Roche was last on 'GH' in 2009.

Just when it seemed that J.T. and Mac would be living happily ever after on 'The Young and the Restless' comes news that the actors playing those roles, Thad Luckinbill and Clementine Ford, are leaving the show. Ford's exit has been confirmed for November. Whether Luckinbill leaves with her at that time remains unclear, but he is also a definite departure. In the case of Ford, she's been let go by 'Y&R', because the show has other ideas for the character down the road.

Luckinbill, on the other hand, has chosen to leave 'Y&R' to try his luck in primetime. Considering the story line, Mac and J.T. are in love and having a baby, the easy out would be for them to move away from Genoa City together. For Luckinbill, he's not just leaving behind the role he's played since 1999. His wife, Amelia Heinle, remains on the soap as Victoria Newman Abbott. However, Heinle is very happy for her husband's new opportunities.

Isn't Lawrence Dead?

Death is never really "the end" on a soap, is it? One of the more memorable stars of 'Days of Our Lives,' Michael Sabatino, returns to Salem despite the fact that he's dead. See, it's not really Lawrence, just the illusion of Lawrence. Vivian's (Louise Sorel) beloved nephew will appear to her when she needs to see him most.

Michael told Soap Opera Digest, "There's a hallucination, because of Vivian being in the sarcophagus. Thinking the end is near, Vivian will conjure up her dead nephew for a chat." No date has been announced for his return as yet, but Vivian's not going to be in that tomb through Thanksgiving!

There's been a lot of ins and outs at 'One Life to Live' lately, with Kim Zimmer cropping up last week as Echo and John Wesley Shipp hopping on board as Eddie. But as those two are joining, two are leaving.

Jason Tam and Terrell Tilford are moving on. Tam, who has briefly been back as Markko, is checking out again. The other exit is Tilford, which shouldn't come as a big surprise because his character, Dr. Greg Evans, has been up to his neck in trouble.

Luke's Back This Week

The long wait is over! Watch for Anthony Geary to return to 'GH' this week -- Oct. 7, to be be exact. The summer vacation is an annual ritual for the six-time Emmy winning daytime star -- one of the perks he has as a soap superstar.

Luke will show up in Ireland, the same place his son Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) is currently hanging out as undercover InterPol agent Ronan O'Reilly. Luke surprises Lucky in jail. It's a classic Spencer father-and-son moment. Not long after, watch for Luke to cross the pond and return to cross swords with wife Tracy (Jane Elliot).

Safe At Home for
'OLTL' Pros
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That's the old saying and the folks at ABC seem to feel that it applies to the management of 'OLTL.' TV Guide reports that the network has given new contracts to executive producer Frank Valentini and headwriter Ron Carlivati. Carlivati, an Emmy-winner in 2008 for his work on 'OLTL,' was extended three years.

All things considered, with the new characters added to the show and the flux of the last year, it's a good thing to stick with Valentini and Carlivati.
