'The Biggest Loser' Season 10, Episode 3 Recap
['The Biggest Loser' - '1 of 15 Eliminated']Once again, host Alison Sweeney surprised the group by moving that yellow line to the halfway point, meaning seven contestants would be weighing in. They also keep surprising them with weigh-ins that seem to be coming earlier in the week. In fact, I'm not even 100 percent sure they're only doing one weigh-in per week. Maybe it's only day four?
It's madness in the House this season! Madness! What's also madness is testing Bob Harper's kindness and understanding. With Jillian Michaels absent for the first weigh-in, Jesse started giving Bob attitude. You don't disrespect Bob or you'll find out he can be every bit as nasty as Jillian. He just smiles while he's doing it.
There was a lot of brutal working-out on display this week, as Bob pushed them for three hours straight in that first work out, and then later Jillian tried to figure out what was going on in the heads of the women that made all but one of them fall below the yellow line last week. Whatever their problem, Jillian clearly didn't get to the root of it this week, because all but two of them again ended up below that line.
Or maybe she got through to Jessica, who fought hard last week in the racing Immunity Challenge. Ada, for the second week in a row, represented for the women above that line. We haven't heard much from her, but she's clearly a competitor. Early in the game it's not at all a bad thing to keep your head down and do the work. Ada is doing that, and it may pay off for her in the end.
At the same time, relationships are important. Brendan, Frado and Patrick took that a step further and officially declared themselves an alliance. They then said they had to keep it a secret from the House but, in the Pop Challenge, they were the last three standing. If they do that again, the secret will likely be out. How stupid do they think the other contestants are? People are always looking for alliances.
Irony reared its ugly head this week, as early in the episode Tina suddenly decided that she needed to go home. This after falling into the Bottom Two last week and convincing everyone to save her. Then, Lisa started saying she wanted to go home so she could help Allie (the one eliminated last week) with her journey.
Bob was right to come in and freak out when he found out about this. How stupid are these women? Lisa, particularly, was daring to say that she felt she'd already learned enough to do it on her own and help Allie. That's the most ridiculous reason to throw yourself under the bus that's possibly ever been uttered on the show. Not for family or for self, but for an eliminated contestant.
Then, when the dust settled after the Immunity Challenge, look who was standing in the Bottom Two this week: Tina and Lisa. One of them was guaranteed to get their wish. But, they'd both supposedly seen the light since then, and now they wanted to stay. In their pleas to those who would be voting -- those above the line and Adam, who luckily had immunity considering he had the second-worst weight loss -- Lisa expressed her renewed passion to be there. Tina didn't. In fact, it looked like she'd reconsidered again and decided she wanted to do it at home.
While such a desire after only two weeks (or is it?) on campus is a slap in the face to all those people who never made it onto the show, she did have an understandable reason. Her daughter tried out for the show as well and didn't make the cut. In the spirit of the "Pay It Forward" theme of the season, it was great seeing her and her daughter working so hard together to make their goals come true.
Even better, Tina went from 243 pounds when she left the Ranch to 205 pounds at home. Her daughter went one better by dropping 85 pounds without ever stepping foot into the competition. There's proof it can be done and that having someone do it with you makes it so much easier. With their weight loss so dramatic already, the women should be looking fantastic at the finale. Tina's hoping the show will allow her daughter on the stage with her, but we'll see.
'The Biggest Loser' airs Tues., 8PM ET on NBC.
