'Grey's Anatomy' Season 7, Episode 3 Recap

The Seattle Grace cast hangs out at Joes.['Grey's Anatomy' - 'Superfreak']

'Grey's Anatomy' may be making strides toward improving, but this episode was imbalanced. The last five minutes had everything you needed to watch: Derek tried to heal any animosity with Amelia (his sister from 'Private Practice'), April called out Alex, Jackson, Meredith and Lexie on their problems, Mark slept with Amelia to the horror of Lexie, and Callie and Arizona found an interesting way to tell Cristina to move out.

The patients are traditionally the theme of the episode and there wasn't anything strong about the two we met this week. One swallowed a condom and the other had monstrous warts growing out of him. All we got from the characters was that they paralleled April being a virgin and Mark needing to move on.

There were only two parts of the episode that were strong. First was watching Derek mentor Cristina. He admitted that in the real world, the closest the two of them would have been were fellow surgeons, but here they became family. Derek reacted calmly and more professionally than Owen has during Cristina's situation. While Owen was being supportive outside of the hospital, Derek was trying to make steps to helping Cristina recover. I loved the 'ET' comparison Derek gave to Owen; it was much better than Owen's "twisted sister" comparison.

Watching the chief deal with Alex was the only other part of the episode that was meaningful. Justin Chambers didn't do the scenes any justice (he never looked scared of the elevator), but the thought of Alex coping with the shootings and the interesting dynamic between him and the chief was nice to watch.

I'm very disappointed in how unprofessional both Lexie and April were this episode. April being incapable of using the words "condom" or "penis" as a professional in front of patients was disappointing. Lexie, on the other hand, lacked any tact -- gagging, giggling and squealing with the wart patient. The spider situation wasn't an issue to me. In Bailey's defense, a spider isn't a part of a human body, and phobias are real issues.

As a proof that there still needs to be another shooting, Teddy was a throwaway character this week. Her only redeemable moment was when she told Callie and Arizona: "I'm not GI Jane, I'm attachment Barbie." I hope next week's preview doesn't push her towards Jackson, because that would just be another Owen/Cristina relationship except with a gender swap.

There were several plot points or statements that didn't make any sense to me. Why is Arizona being so pushy in having Cristina move out? The apartment was 50/50 when Cristina and Callie (instead of Izzie) moved in. Who was Meredith to tell Derek that he should accept his family? She didn't accept Lexie when she first arrived. Does Mark sleep with every Shepherd girl? At this point, he should just sleep with Derek and get the whole clan. Also, wasn't Mark the one who was mentally ready for marriage, and then reverted back to his one night stand mentality?

the only thing i didn't like was how unprofessional lexie was.
she acted so surprised like she had never seen anything like that before. anyone is the medical community should know the case of the original tree-man, Dede, so it shouldn't be such a shocker.
I mean, I wasn't shocked at all. i knew about him from TLC
