'Hawaii Five-0' Producers Want to Book the Original Danno

The producers of the new 'Hawaii Five-0' reboot obviously still have a soft spot for the old Danno: They want to sign him up for a cameo role.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Peter Lenkov said that he's been trying to persuade actor James McArthur to appear on the show. "We've been talking to James ... but he just doesn't know because he's busy with a business he's launching. But we'd love to have him."

And according to WENN.com, McArthur's consdering Lenkov's offer. He said "It's got a good cast and good plots. ... I'll do it when the time is right."

Lenkov's also keen to have Al Harrington appear in the new version of the show. Harrington played Det. Ben Kokua on the original series for six years. But, although both McArthur and Harrington are now in their 70s, Lenkov's in no hurry to get them booked in: "It still feels early in the season. ... We have time."

'Hawaii Five-0' is the most-watched new show on TV right now, averaging around 13 million viewers. Although CBS was cautious in ordering only 13 episodes before the series premiered, it seems almost certain that the network will now run a full season of the show.

James McArthur played Det. Danny "Danno" Williams on 'Hawaii Five-0' from 1969 to 1979, alongside Jack Lord as his boss, Det. Steve McGarrett. McArthur last played the character in a made-for-TV movie in 1997, which reunited him with former co-stars Kam Fong (Det. Chin Ho Kelly) and Harry Endo (Che Fong). In the movie, Danno's still in law enforcement, albeit as a judge, not a detective.

As we reported back in August, Masi Oka will also be guest-starring in 'Hawaii Five-0' this season. Lenkov confirmed that he'll appear in at least three epsiodes, playing coroner Max Bergman.

'Hawaii Five-0' airs Mon., 10PM ET on CBS.

How can they sign him for a spot? I just checked online and James MacArthur passed away in October of 2010.
