Carl Paladino: Gay Pride Parades Are a 'Terrible Thing' For Children To Watch (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Oct 11th 2010 3:55PM
Carl Paladino, the Tea Party-backed candidate for governor of New York, has touched off controversy by telling a group of Orthodox Jewish leaders that he doesn't want children to "be brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid or successful option."

He attempted to explain his comments on 'Today' (weekdays, 7 AM ET on NBC.)

"I have absolutely no problem with (homosexuality)," Paladino told Matt Lauer. "My only reservation is marriage."

Lauer then pointed out that Paladino hadn't said that he doesn't want school children to be brainwashed into accepting gay marriage, rather he had said he didn't want them to be brainwashed into accepting homosexuality as an "equally valid or successful option."

"Young children shouldn't be exposed to (homosexuality) at a young age," Paladino reaffirmed. "They don't understand it, it's a very difficult thing."

"Especially at a Gay Pride parade," Paladino continued. "And I don't know if you've ever been to one -- but they wear these little Speedos and they grind against each other. And it's just a terrible thing."

In the past, Paladino has criticized his opponent for governor, Andrew Cuomo, for taking his daughters to a gay pride parade.

If you watched the entire interview on FOX NEWS you would see that what is being "reported" on network TV and this AOL news article are two different things. Carl Paladino is not homophobic and he has no problem with gay people. He just doesn't want young children to see what goes on at gay pride parades...and I agree with him...and I AM GAY! Gays & Lesbians should enjoy the rights of all the citizens of the USA. When the guys start acting like it's Sodom & Gomorrah and humping each other on the floats, then everybody is going to think that ALL gays are decadent, immoral and promiscuos sex fiends. At the Castro festival in San Francisco, totally naked men will masturbate right on the sidewalks in broad day light. I wouldn't want my kids to see that either. I'm sure every decent parent would not want their kids to see adult men fornicating in public. When gay men act like that, they set the gay-liberation movement BACK twenty years! Just like women's lib, it starts out as a good thing, then gets radical when they get a little power. I am all for equal rights for women, but I don't think murdering a baby is an acceptable form of birth control. Something to think about..... gregg in Sarasota, FL

It's clear from what he said that he was NOT only talking about what happens at a gay pride parade.

The last few weeks have seen an epidemic of suicides among gay (or identified-by-peers as gay) youth around the country who have been the victims of bullying. I'm sorry, but saying you don't want young people exposed to gays is tantamount to siding with the bullies. More awareness is the only way to stop this.

We see heterosexuality flaunted all over the place today. We see hyper sexual ads, men and women grinding against one another in TV shows and movies...things kids are exposed to on a daily basis and you don't hear anyone proclaiming that kids shouldn't be exposed to that. Heck, we basically see sex first hand on reality shows like Jersey Shore or The Real World these days, but do you see anyone complaining about that? No...

While I agree that there's really no need to expose young kids to overt sexuality, it goes both ways and the inability to acknowledge that it goes both ways is pure hypocrisy.
