Jesse Metcalfe Opens Up About Alcohol Abuse on 'Wendy Williams' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Oct 11th 2010 3:00PM
'Desperate Housewives' star Jesse Metcalfe discussed his struggles with alcohol on 'The Wendy Williams Show' (weekdays, syndicated), admitting that dealing with his addiction has been an ongoing battle.

"When I realized it was a real problem, when I realized I had an addiction, I faced it. I checked myself into a rehab," Metcalfe said to audience applause. "It was three-and-a-half years ago ... I can't tell you that I've been sober for the last three-and-a-half years, but I can tell you that I'm without a doubt sober now. That's what's most important."

Teenage Alcohol Abuse Statistics. According to the alcoholism and alcohol abuse research literature, around 9.7 million current drinkers in the United States are between the ages of 12-20. Regarding these young drinkers, 18.7% are binge drinkers and 6% are excessive drinkers. Obviously, adolescent alcohol abuse is a critical problem in the U.S.

If the one to whom you are talking knows, then there is no point in your saying anything more. Once you say "You know", shut up. You know?

The only thing worse than these 5 minute celebrities getting on the sobriety wagon to get media attention they'd never get with their mediocre talent is the Alanon whiners who plaster these boards with their judgemental drivel about the drunks in their family. Just go out and live your life, for whatever its worth, and let the past be the past. In the words of the immortal Bill, Let go and Let god...whoever...just let it go.

OK, WHO IS THIS? AND, WHY SHOULD WE CARE OR EVEN BE SURPRISED THAT HE DRINKS?

What a crock! Metcalfe and his two companions were kicked out of the Addison Improv September 5 after what appeared to be a substance-induced tirade, and it was only 6 in the evening! Their group was approaching tables, accusing them of taking photos of Metcalfe (yet offering camera time after the show!) and cursing at them, threatening to take them out to the parking lot. We were there for my sister's birthday, and he called her "trailor park trash," which she isn't (not that there's anything wrong with that). Only 2 people at our table of 10 even knew who he was, and hew was sitting several tables away from us, so we couldn't have taken pictures of him from our seats if we had wanted to.

Drinking alcohol is a choice, nobody has to start drinking, it is a choice one makes. So tired of hearing about poor me I have and alcohol problem and then everybody does a dance around them! I choose not to drink, now where is my reward? I saw first had as a child what alcohol does to a family and what the people who choose to drink do to those around them.
