Rick Springfield Talks Teen Suicide Attempt on 'GMA' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Oct 12th 2010 4:15PM
While promoting his memoir 'Late, Late at Night' on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC), Rick Springfield reveals a botched teen suicide attempt and delivers a message to teens thinking of taking their owns lives.

Springfield recalls his suicide attempt and notes that, "If the rope ... had ... held, I would have missed out on a lot of amazing stuff in my life."

"The whole suicide thing -- it's written on my shoulder, you know?" Springfield said. "But, especially with all the latest rash of teen suicides ... I've spoken to these kids and said, like I say in the book, 'Give it a year, because your life will change.'"

According to Springfield, he's suffered a lifelong battle with depression that even fame and fortune couldn't cure. "Once I achieved a lot of what I thought I wanted to achieve ... depression came roaring back and I realized what I thought would heal me, which is success and my dreams come true, doesn't heal you," he said.
