Joy and Whoopi Walk Off 'The View' After Comment by Bill O'Reilly (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Oct 14th 2010 12:45PM
On 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated), the panel has a shouting match with Bill O'Reilly over the Ground Zero mosque, then Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg walk off the set after O'Reilly says that "Muslims killed us on 9/11."

O'Reilly argues that most of America is against the proposed Ground Zero mosque because of Muslim involvement in the terror bombings of 9/11. This causes a furor among the panel and Behar rises from the couch to leave the set.

"I don't want to sit here now. I don't. I'm outraged by that statement!" Behar said. Goldberg joins her in protest, and the two walk offstage to loud cheers from the audience.

But Barbara Walters chides her co-hosts for their behavior. "You have just seen what should not happen," she said. "We should be able to have discussions without washing our hands and screaming and walking offstage. I love my colleagues, but it should not have happened."

This is the reason I dont watch the view, for Whoopi and Joy want respect for there opinions but will not give respect to others opinions which they dont agree with. This is not tolerance which is usually the lefts propoganda mantra right ? Tolerance isnt just given to those we agree with, and in my opinion there dumbasses for the fact of the matter is, radical Islamics did bomb the towers with planes, this was orchestrated by Radical muslims and this shouldnt come as a suprise. Second off very rude of them to walk off when they knowingly invite him back time and time again to only go off on him, its a set up pure and simple.... Devilwoman

My only osie is with the producers for giving O'Reilly another platform to spew his hate.

Joy is a journalist, at least she is on her own show. On the view she is a personality. Whoppi reflects the View for the majority of main stream America.

I applaud their right to walk off, although I would have rather seen them put the a hole in his place.

A "RADICAL" Muslim group with responsible for 911.

What was the approval rating of Hitler in Nazi Germany? Did 70% of the public agree with him. Probably more. Why? Because he had access to the air waves to endoctrinate the people with fear and hate. Hmmmmmm. Sounds like some of our modern day heroes a bit doesn't it? (O'Reilly, Beck, Limbaurgh)

So now simply mentioning the FACT they were Muslims who committed 9/11 is cause for outrage? What is wrong with you people?

The minute you take to the airwaves you have a responsibility to your audience. Per Wikipedia Definition of a journalist: A journalist collects and disseminates information about current events, people, trends, and issues. His or her work is acknowledged as journalism.

Grad a Webster's Juan.
The dictionary definition of journalism is:

the occupation of reporting, writing, editing, photographing, or broadcasting news or of conducting any news organization as a business.

With the exception of Barbra Walters - no one on the at show refers to themselves as a journalist. Period.

You don't seem to be living in the same world the rest of us are.

All TV and radio news of any sort is a money-making operation. There is no element of public service or objectivity in it any more at any level (with the possible exception of C-SPAN). Which stories get aired and how they are spun is completely determined by the context in which the people who buy commercials on the shows want their products to be seen.

The View in particular has never claimed to be journalism in any sense. It is four celebrities (and sometimes Barbara Walters, a celebrity journalist) talking about miscellaneous issues from their own personal point of view. If a guest offends them, I think they have every right to walk out (or better yet, cut to commercial and have the guest removed from the set).

Again, we see that both Whoopi and Joy showed their "true" journalistic class! There is no doubt in my mind that Bill O'Reilly is a real antagonistic and that he is the only one that came up winning from all of this. In all fairness, I think Barbara Walters needs to consider harsh measures for such a stupid and immature behavior as displayed by two of her co-hosts. I think suspension would be highly recommendable or better yet replacement! The responsibility of a journalist is to allow a topic to be presented and then if need be argue the matter. I think what this two women did was disrespectful to their co-hosts and to the american public.

When have Whoopi or Joy stated they were Journalists? On that note, when has Bill O'Reilly ever said he was one?

And why on earth would Barbara consider harsh measures after she publicly scolded them right there and then. Barbara herself is a journalist and I think she does have a higher standard then perhaps her co-hosts but let's be honest, these women were not hired because they have awards in journalism or for even that matter are they particularly versed on issues. The idea of the show is that "everyday people share their views" it's not a round table for Journalists.

Seriously this is the most press The View has gotten in a long time - and Lord knows Bill going to be milking it for material for his program for WEEKS to come.

Joy and Whoopi walked out on principle which is fine. It was a cheap shot for O'Reilly to state "Muslims killed us on 9/11/01". That's no more relevant than stating "Men killed us on 9/11" or "Middle-easterns killed..." O'Reilly's reckless generalizations cannot be tolerated and instead of forcing him off the show, the two women walked, and that's fine as a protest and Barbara should've supported their right to do that.
