'Sanctuary' Season 3 Premiere Recap

['Sanctuary' - 'Kali, Part 3']

Season 3 picked up right where season 2 ended with Big Bertha releasing a massive electromagnetic pulse across the Indian Ocean. She disabled every ship in the vicinity, including the Sanctuary network's, and sent a massive tidal wave toward the Indian sub-continent.

Terrence decided to go in for the kill to get rid of BB for good, but Magnus interfered. She jumped into her helicopter to try to distract Terrence and force BB back into the ocean, but crashed.

In Mumbai, Will was in pretty bad shape. I suppose dancing around like you're in a Bollywood movie would do that to some people.

Meanwhile, Kate roamed the streets warning people about the coming tsunami. She tried to play hero by saving everyone, but it was too late, the wave hit the city. You know this seems all too familiar. I wonder if they used stock footage from her tidal-wave-of-destruction scene in the movie '2012.' At any rate, she survived, but the city was virtually under water.

Oh and then there's Forsythe. Why is he still relevant at this point? Oh right, because his minions fished Helen Magnus out of the water. She's alive! Forsythe turned on the cheesy charm, but Magnus wasn't having any of it, she went all Sydney Bristow on the minions and pointed a gun at him. She demanded he communicate with BB to stop the waves, but Forsythe had a secret. He pulled that icky spider that's been hanging around in his gut out his pocket -- it's dead. Crap!

Magnus asked the leader of the Cult of Kali if there was any way that a host can communicate with BB without the macri. She told her that that Kali will appear to a host one last time at the gates of the spirit realm, and informed Will that in order to talk to Kali, he'll have to die.

So, Kate and Ravi stopped Will's heart. He flat-lined and found himself in the spirit realm, which is apparently a grassy field with an orange sky. Will spotted Kali in the distance and ran to her, but there was a canyon separating them. He tried to jump across to reach her but fell to the bottom.

He found himself in a temple where he meets Kali and begged her to stop the wave. Kali told him that she would try. Kate and Ravi attempted to bring Will back, but couldn't get his heart started. Ravi wanted to stop, but Kate wouldn't give up. One of the guys in Kali's temple touched Will on the arm and brought him back to life.


Showdown. Terrence approached Forsythe's ship and fired up weapons ready to take them down. In a surprise twist, Forsythe volunteered for a suicide mission then poured himself a glass of wine. Terrence then fired on the ship and blew it out of the water. Too bad because I was starting to like Forsythe.

In retaliation, Magnus fired a bazooka at Terrence's ship and took out the guidance system. Terence freaked out and blindly shot at Kali, who fell into the ocean. Mutiny! Magnus boarded Terrence's ship and his crew refused to follow his orders, as a massive counter wave swept across the ocean and canceled out the BB's tidal wave. The seas were calm once more.

Back at the Sanctuary, Will told Magnus that he had no memory of what happened when he died. Magnus was confused about where the counter wave originated from. It's a mystery. And that my friends is the beginning of the new season of 'Sanctuary.'


Season 3 observations:
Gasp! They changed the theme song! I loved the old one and this new one sounds like safari music. Not a good move.

I love Paul McGillion as the bad guy. I miss that Scottish accent, though.

I'm still not completely sold on Kate Freelander, but I do like her flirtation with Ravi. He should definitely stick around.

Oh, and we find out what Forsythe needed Big Bertha to create a super continent, so he could live out his very own Island of Dr. Moreau fantasy. How very mad scientist.
