Actor Tony Danza has hit some bumps on the road during his new career. 'Teach' (Fri., 10PM ET on AETV) centers on Mr. Danza's efforts to educate a class of 10th-graders, as Tony tries out a new job as an English teacher. On the first two episodes, we saw Danza sweat, cry, and nearly get sued. He's had a tough time, adapting to life at a high school with 3,500 students who speak 57 different languages.
Tonight, Tony was invited to perform at a charity event. The event was an academic awards ceremony -- with Danza serving as the M.C. But being a skilled performer can cut both ways. Previously, Danza was criticized for failing to connect with his students, and for focusing too much on himself. His antics included tap-dancing to keep his class's attention. Would the charity show be more of the same?
Not at all! Tony shared the spotlight with his students. He gave a quick speech, then bowed out, letting the kids from Northeast High School take the stage. The collected students had a great time. They sang the theme from 'Fame,' did cheerleading stunts, and yes -- they did a little tap-dancing with Mr. Danza. It was all for a good cause, and the kids and the teacher were on the same page. "They loved us!" said student Eric L.
